Leica to announce a new M-mount M6 film camera in Oct 2022

I received an email this morning from the San Francisco Leica Store, announcing the impending arrival of the new M6. The ad specifically states that this is NOT a limited release. The store is taking pre-orders now; price is $5295 USD.

Put me down as Team Top Plate Engraving, not Team Red Dot, but it’s great to hear that it’s not a limited edition. They’ve made a lot of tweaks to small details that people didn’t like and have perfected the M6.

I’m curious about the “battery warning” mentioned in the linked article above - if it were to indicate an actual battery level rather than just “low”, that would be nice.

On my M6, M6 TTL, I think the only indication of low battery I get is that the LEDs just start flickering oddly or don’t light at all.

For what it's worth, I would have preferred to see something along the lines of a LHSA edition.... (I think of the M2/M3 [your choice] M4 were the highwater mark for M series).....no writing on the front, no red dot, script writing on top, brass top plate. I bought and used several M6 including a titanium. They never failed me, but i prefer my old black paint M4.....

Wow, just now finding this out, how cool for the analog renaissance and love that it is the M6. But $5,295, yowza, glad I got my M6 and "MP'd" the finder when prices were still sane.

To those with the means and desire, more power and analog joy to you!

A shutter speed dial the size of the M6 TTL’s would be nice and an inexpensive improvement, but I don’t think they did that.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Leica is not using old production parts. It's an MP with an M6 shell (brass topcover).

Things I learned from the Three Blind Men and an Elephant (Hugh Brownstone) You Tube post this morning doing an interview with the Leica Director of Global Marketing & Comms: Not a limited run, they are doing a continuous production series with all new parts so far to last for the next 12 to 18 months; The top and bottom plates are new and brass, but don't expect it to show through with use as they are using the same paint as on the M11 which is "extremely scuff resistant"; the meter readout now has a center spot between the two arrows; the rangefinder prism is a newly improved design; they have no plans to make a silver version or "special releases", it is what it is and shall always be; and the camera will be available November 1st.

Well, now I need to save up another grand or so.

Yeah, well that's how those guys in marketing talk. Big deal, bringing out a discontinued camera and acting like they discovered the meaning of life. To me it is past droll, it is comical or farcical. They could have built a better film camera but did not. Unless this is the ultimate film camera. I am sure some will support this. Is it?

Because they like the M6 design better? The rewind crank, the film spool rewind and the red dot? Why do people buy any other different Leica M than the MP?

I only see a surposition of two film models in a niche market... they are not digital.
If the 500 units thing it's not true, I can't understand the move.
Or maybe they stopped production of the black MP...

The price is not a problem. These days „eco-hipsters“ don‘t buy cars so they can easily afford an M6. When it comes to me, I like the idea of the new M6 (if it is not limited) but it is too expensive.

Isn´t it amazing how they turn a "Plain Jane M" (Stephen Gandy) into an iconic camera?
