Camera and Coffee

So what's that in the flight jacket's pocket? :D A short series with coffee of just how compact a CL with a Gordy wrist strap and an Industar-22 can be. The strap with my VC Meter II is Gordy's too. Got the first roll dropped off so hopefully I'll know more about it's real condition at that time. On board meter doesn't want to adjust for me and I really can't see spending the money to have it done when I have a good external meter.

An Accidental Acquisition...

An Accidental Acquisition...

For the last couple of years my brother-in-law has been threatening to give me "an old Leica that he's had for years." Last weekend while in LA he brought a shoebox over to the hotel with what was to be his "Leica" but instead these three cameras, lenses and accessories were in the box (he apologized ;)):

Nikon RF with 50/1.4 Nikkor
Canon P with 135/3.5 Canon
Canon 7 with 50/.95 Canon
Leitz 35/3.5 Summaron
Leitz 50/2 Summitar
Leitz 135/4.5 Hektor
Leitz 35mm auxiliary finder
Leitz 135mm auxiliary finder
Two Metraphot meters

In truth I haven't checked the condition of any of the pieces yet; this shot was quickly snapped on the hotel table where I had set up "shop" while attending the opening race of the NHRA 2006 season at Pomona. It'll be fun checking this stuff out...

Excuse me, but Oh My Gosh! Now you've got to take back all those nasty things you've ever said about your brother-in-law! :)

Ack... Uhm, need any help testing the 50/.95? I've already got the 7 to try it on... :D Bet the 35/3.5 Summaron would work really well on a CL too... Oh, well, back to reality.

I think joe's right, that is a IV though I can't tell which submodel w/out seeing the speed dials. But more of the Sb were made so it's always a safe first guess :) Is the Nikon an M or an S? It all looks to be in beautiful condition; hope you have fun with it

he gave that to you?
very cool indeed!

btw, that's not a canon p, maybe a ivsb.

joe

Thank you Joe, Frank, et al. I'm not certain which Nikon it is, either. I need to spend a little time with research and acquainting myself with these cameras -- I hope it doesn't lead to another Contax/Alpa type of OCD :D.

Interesting Nikon, nemjo. Nice traveler. At present, my RoadTrip moto is, "No Zorki left behind." Therefore, my carry-on bag has wheels... big, strong, wheels. :)

Honu-hugger. I'm ignoring you. I have the kind of brother-in-law that borrows money for gas, but leaves me a Watchtower. I know one day my ship will come in, ............. but some guy like you will probably be at the helm.

Honu-Hugger,
It appears to be a Nikon S. Small viewfinder window but with flash sync (S means "sync" ... don't ask why, it's too complicated).

CVBLZ4,
You got my morning off with a good laugh -- thanks :D. And Vince, thank you for the info on the Nikon. I still haven't caught up with returning home yet but over the weekend I hope to examine this stuff a little more closely...probably have to find the "Henry Scherer" of the Canon and Nikon world. Any leads or suggestions for good repair people?

The Gang of Four?

The Gang of Four?

Got to realizing last night, that without meaning to, I've ended up with a little pile of pocket rangefinders. Here then, in all the glory my POS Kodak DC3400 can manage  , is my "Gang of Four": Agfa Isolette III, Agfa Karat 36, Leica CL, Zeiss Ikon Contessa 35.

William, is your CL sans internal meter too?

I find that I can mount the collapsible FED lens but not the slightly longer Elmar 50 f3.5 on my CL.

William, nice quartet.

D2: that is a mighty fine shoebox of cameras! I hope you use them. Essex did good jobs on my Canon 7 and VI-T. They also handle Nikon, and have done several F's and F2's for me.
