Camera and Coffee

Hi Brian

for something completely different (apologies to the Pythons) try Pilsner Urquell or if you can find it Radegast. Those Czechs know how to make beer.

I know how to drink it though.

prost, salut, cheers, Jan

Well, my Bessa R2A is here!

Hey that's the strap that came with Gene's CL ! (I guess no matter how many years pass, it will always be Gene's CL 😀 LOL!)
No way! That's Oscar's CL! Once you adopt a Leica, it's YOURS!! 😀

Natalia, the R2A is a beauty! I'm looking forward to the gallery pics!

funny, I am not being notified by e-mail about the replies.....Gene, Joe....I am trying out a Nokton 1.4 now....I know about the framelines, but if I really like it I think I can learn to work it with 35mm framelines.

To stay on "Coffee theme", Bill and will be going to Starbucks in a while....I'll bring my Bessa girl with me🙂

A thought just crossed my mind: We, RF user can drink coffee freely and not worry about our hands shaking during longish exposures, and SLR users can't...well, maybe with an IS lens.....

My favorite coffee companions....

My favorite coffee companions....

Finally think I've licked the flu and decided to get some coffeecam shots posted. These are my favorite coffee shop companions.

My little Sekonic L-136 clip-on meter arrived yesterday from greyhoundman. With a little tweaking it fit on my FED 2e. It's a teeny little sucker. It replaces a Luna Pro. It also looks quite nice on my camera with too many lenses. It came in this wonderful little wooden box. I think the FED and Sekonic will make a very nice combination. Unfortunately, it will have to move when I need the Universal Finder for my 35 and 85. I looked at the double accessory shoes at Cameraquest but it would be too big for this camera and I'm not sure there is enough room for the Universal Finder and the Sekonic anyway. Oh, well. It will still be easier to carry around. Sweet!

The little Sekonic is obviously small but I can still read it OK with my glasses on. I really like meters with dials since I can easily see the choices of different f stops and speeds. I'm keeping the Luna Pro but I've wanted a good-clip on for street shooting. The little Sekonic fits the bill perfectly.

I've had some of those cameras since the 1970s. They've been shelf queens but hanging around here has given me the impetus to make them into users again. It's so easy to get wrapped up in the latest camera as being the only camera worthy of taking pictures, that all old cameras are hopelessly out of date and that it's not possible to take good pictures with them. But hanging around here has given me an appreciation for old lenses and how their pictures look. Matu's thread is a great example of this. All these cameras and lenses took great pictures in the past. They still can. And they're cheap, thanks to the digital revolution.

Gordon,

I like seeing the migration to digital. It is freeing up some nice cameras and deals are around if you wait and are patient. I've got nothing new in the last 5 years. All used stuff for 120 film. There has been little interest in this area and prices are fair. Collectible 35mm and new digital are holding up their prices though.

If you want a second tier 35 mm that is over 10 yrs old like an Olympus or Minolta for instance the prices are very interesting. They take pictures too.

I may check out some of the funky LF stuff in a year or so. People seem to be getting tired of lugging it around. I'm sure there will be an opportunity or two. I'm waiting.

Anyway since the entire planet has a coffee / camera shot at this site. I'm posting my effort. It's my trusty Mamiya 6 RF. It's a tank but I know I have hold of something when I pick it up.

Nice chunk of camera, Jan! Kinda like my F2 Photomic, bought new in 1970 (?), still works like a charm. When you pick it up, you know you've got a camera in your hand. And, the only new piece I've gotten was my FM3A, given to me by my daughters this past Christmas. My youngest works part-time in a "vintage shop," and frequently the most amazing cameras come in with consignments, from folks who've gone digital. I think it's great!

Gotta do this before they're all sold! 🙂

front row bessa R+ 35 Ultron, M4-P + 35 cron, Mamiya 6 + 75 collapsed, horizon 202 - I call her the banding-bugger, Elmarit 90/2.8, CV 75/2.5 + 15/4.5, and the digiflash (what a bargain!).

(the Bessa+Ultron, the 15/4.5 and the Mamiya 6+75mm are searching for a new home if anyone is interested)

This picture also has historical value, as the coffee you see is actually the very last one we got from our machine, that is - before she went up in flames, "fell" out of the window burning andwe put snow on top of it to extinguish the fire. Oh well, the gurantee expired exactly two weeks before. Call it coincidence.. 😀
