Hey fellas,

I'm writing regarding the malfunctioning of my Canonnet. I thought it would be best to consult the experts regarding my future actions.

Upon returning from my overseas trip to Malaysia with the spoilt camera, I found it to be in working condition the following morning. After which I was happy but apprehensive to load another roll of film, afraid that the problem might crop up again.

Tonight, I just loaded an Ilford Delta 400, and lo and behold, the problem sprung back to life.

I am at my wits end, however after calming myself down, and rewinding the film back to the initial state so I could still use it on another film camera, I decided to take a closer look at what happened when I depressed the shutter.

When I depressed the shutter, I could hear a faint click as if it was trying to hook onto something to activate the shutter release. I am suspecting that something has come loose in the shutter mechanism causing the shutter not to fire even when I depress it fully.

As described in the previous thread, it is not the problem with the meter automatically blocking the shutter from releasing and I have tried it both in SP and Manual mode. The front blades close in with the back blades fully closed but the shutter does not fire.

Has anyone faced this problem before and is it possible to do a self-repair? Or do I have to haul it off to an expert to get it repaired? I have yet to finish a roll on this one after receiving it from the G'man a few weeks back and this problem crops up already. :(

Thank you in advance to all the kind souls.

Hey fellas,

Uh ... :)

This is exactly the way mine was when the shutter was stuck. It was releasing, trying to fire, but sticking in the process and never completing the job.

Has anyone faced this problem before and is it possible to do a self-repair?

Some gentle cleaning with Ronsonol fixed it right up.

I have a feeling that Greyhoundman will chime in here, and he's far more of an expert on this type of thing than I am.

I personally have taken offense. You have not contacted me as to options I could offer on repair or replacement.
I stand behind the gear I sell. I've never refused to repair at my expense.
Sorry if I have offended you. Because I don't really blame you, after all it worked fine for a coupla shots before this happened. I was inclined to think it was general failure due to the old age of the camera.

However, I do understand your position regarding standing behind the gear you sell, and I would like to make it clear the G'man has offered to repair at his expense and dealing with him has always been a smooth and professional experience.

I hope that erases any bad air I've created. Sorry once again.
