CV 28 or CV 35?

I was never blown away by a 28mm even after owning 2 versions of the Leica Elmarits. I purchased a used Ultron 28 from one of the RFF members and fell in love with it. Ergonomics are to my liking and the sharpness and flare resistance blow me away even at f2. Build is excellent as well.

Here's a sample portrait with the Ultron 28 on a very overcast day.

Wow, great shot there x-ray! Definately a nice portraiture lens.

Thanks. Just an illustration that any FL can be used under the right conditions and to convey a specific mood for a portrait. I just can't sau enough good about the 28 ultron though. Very nice lens in every aspect.

I find there's a good bit of emotion attached to other brands and particularly leica. IMO the emotion comes when looking at the image and not from looking at the camera. Brand makes no difference, it's all in the final image and 99% of that is due to the creative eye and not the equipment.

I just got my 28/1.9 Ultron last week. I decided to get the 1.9 over the 3.5 because of the added speed (I like low light) and I already had the VC 35/2.5 which fills my need for a compact wide street shooter. I've found the build quality of the Ultron to be the highest of all the VC lenses I've used. Much better than the 50 Nokton as the aperture ring is firm with positive clicks. Also the focus lever is a great addition.

Well it seems like I'm definately gonna get the 28 1.9. Thanks guys!

My eyes will be locked on the classifieds for some time to come until I come across a second hand 28 Ultron. ;)

Maybe later I'll purchase a CV 35 f/2.8 PII for street shooting. I love the compactness of the CV 28 f/3.5 but I think i would rather have the added low light capability.

I've recently had mechanical problems with my 50 asph summilux and purchased a CV 50 Nokton. I previously owned a used Nokton 50 and the aperture ring was easy to knock off the desired f stop. The new one is firm with very positive clicks. Looking at the CV lenses i have in comparison to my Zeiss and leica lenses of current production I feel the 35 Nokton, 50 Nokton, 28 Ultron, 75 and 35 PII are up there in construction and at least as good as the current generation of leica lenses. Too many folks confuse weight with build quality. Weight and build quality have nothing to do with each other. CV lenses are brass and Zeiss are alloy. Both are exceptionally well built in comparison to the new generation of leica lenses. Also I find them very comperable if not better than some of the new leica lenses with regard to flare controll and a close if not equal match with resolution.

The only issue I have with the ultron is that there are so few photoe xamples that i've seen of the lens. I find only a handful on flickr and most are by the same individual and taken with an m8 which doesnt really help me.

:(

Hmm...

Hi, I´ve some 120 pics on my stream taken with the ultron. Color and B&W and all on Film (mostly TriX)..I love this lens. very sharp, flare proof and good handling. (balances very well with my M6)
