Favorite pocketable?

Hard to pick a universal favorite, so here's a list of cameras I've carried in my pocket in nominal order of ease of carriage:

Voigtlander Vito - Really well-designed for pocketability and pretty light.

Kodak Retina I (010) - Similar size but much heavier than the Vito.

Voigtlander Perkeo II - How can medium format be this small? Brilliant image quality and design.

Rollei 35 - Smaller and more modern ergonomics than the above but a heavy little brick.

FED-2 w/ FED 50/3.5 collapsible - A bit larger than the rest but still easy to carry and useful rangefinder capability.

Olympus Pen D3 - Fast lens, modern design, and seemingly endless film with half-frame format. Non-collapsible lens is the only drawback.

All are very capable cameras, but obviously there are times when the slow operation of an old folder just won't do, or when a particular film format is desirable.

Used to be a Rollei 35S but lately it has been my iPhone 4. I do need a new pocketable. Nikon 28ti or 35ti?

My iPhone 4S is probably my favorite digital camera, and always with me. I have a Canon SD880is that I used to carry frequently, but since I got the iPhone 4S, I don't think I've shot a single frame with the Canon.

iPhone. Any of them, but currently a 5. I don't believe a 135 film camera is pocketable, the depth of the canister alone is uncomfortable in jeans and especially shorts (for me). And seriously, why wouldn't you just use the iPhone? Its fast and easy and always with you. A 'pocketable' film camera has no extra benefits (that a non pocketable film camera has: large/bright viewfinder, interchangeable lenses, etc...) apart from being film. I'm not against film btw, my only other camera is an M6.

I don't believe a 135 film camera is pocketable, the depth of the canister alone is uncomfortable in jeans and especially shorts (for me).

That's the problem with hot countries.
Back in Britain, a jacket is almost obligatory for most of the year - so a jacket pocket camera is fine.

One of the joys of middle age, is that one may wear cargo pockets on *everything* with impunity. Even my swimming shorts can take an M3 with 50mm Elmar; and at my age I'm allowed to scare the wildlife. 😀

I have an Olympus mju II. It has its advantages: great lens, weather resistant, v. small; but it isn't ideal: the focus can be hit-and-miss, you have to deactivate the flash every time you switch it on, and there are no manual controls. I'd like a Contax T3 or even a Nikon 28 or 35 ti, but high prices for a potentially unserviceable piece of electronics have kept me away.

Compact for me is mainly digital, with the X100s (or the iPhone 5s 😱). There is also the argument that I make to myself: if you can be bothered to take a camera, you can be bothered to take an M. And the M6 and M-E aren't much bigger than the Fuji, especially with a compact lens.

Exactly. I guess max. 30mm thickness is the limit for jeans or short pockets. After my film P&S era I had a Pana FX30 and now my Canon S100 is mechanically gone too. I'm looking for a new truly pocketable camera (< 30mm thickness) with a fixed lens, without zoom: It will go mad someday with my usage.
I had a closer look to the discussion here and the dpreview buying guide, but couldn't find any choices of really small cameras without zoom! I'm thinking at something digital like a Minolta TC-1, Minolta 300, Minox 35 or Contax T...

At age 60 that's all I wear. My Leica II with a collapsible Elmar fits very nicely in my front pocket.
