I have an oportunity to buy a Summar, but my only usable body is Fed2. Does anybody have expirience with this combo? Thanx for any reply. Petr

i'd say definitely go for the summar, especially if it's for a good price.. it's nice to experience more examples of the history

All right...

All right...

Summar has a new owner.
It cost me 3000 CZK ( cca 150$ / 105 Euro )
Right now i am testing it on Fomapan 100.
Results will be here soon.

Stay tuned :D

So here it is. Fomapan 100 in diafine. Scanner Canon 4400F
2misok: Thanx. The hood will be a problem, perhaps i will need to mill a adapter from 36mm to something more common.
Finding original in Czech rep is unlikely.

not bad.. maybe the light conditions weren't just right for that fomapan 100 but your glass looks ok and i hope to see more..

@ the hood - few days ago i made one this way :

- downloaded free pdf from http://www.lenshoods.co.uk/ random 50mm..
- printed it on card paper in scale which made it fit on 41mm industar, cut it *, bend..
- acrylized it with CA glue for more stiffness
- wanted even more so i wound many turns of cotton thread around it and soaked with superglue again
- painted matte black

* - without those collar stripes

all the best,

m.

You are right, the lightning was so-so, but tomorow i'm taking it to Mighty sounds festival with panF+ and APX100.
A díky za tip na clonu. :D

It should not be a problem and you should not have to go to such trouble.

The best choice is the Leitz FISON. It is labelled Elmar but fits Summar. They are easily found on eBay and are quite cheap.

The so-called "vented" hoods were made in 34mm screw. Don't be tempted other than as a last resort. They are just a toy for the fashion conscious, not very effective, and not a good idea.

Interesting idea Nick, thank you. German Ebay may have some FISONs. Anyway tomorrow i'll post some photos from Mighty sounds festival.

Tread carefully, take your time, and look a bit further afield, P3tr. The Germans seem to have some quite fanciful ideas of what these things are worth, particularly that robber baron in Nuremberg......

Perhaps, ill start with gummi-hood and B+W skylight attached on m34 to m37 adapter.
Anyway, Mightysounds was cool, but i had no time to scan all the negs. I used 2 xp2 super, one per day, because difference outside vs stages was about 8 EV.

More photos will follow as soon as i return from office.

Oh and inside the lens are strange lines, like cracks facing mostly center, but they look soft. Fungus maybe?

When i compare it to Jupiter-8, Summar is much much softer. So main lens is still Jupiter, but im taking summar with me more testing. Next week i'm on vacation alone with three beautiful girls, so i think the testing will be interesting :D
Cheers

What testing, Petr?
Testing capabilities of 70 years old lens, my first Leitz glass.

Today I've returned from Moravia. I used Reala and fuji 160s with Summar and J-8. Scans will be here soon.

I have a curious question... what gives the film this look? Is it a low contrast developer or is it just printing with very low number contrast filters?
