Fuji X100 Digital SOMETHING from Fujifilm

Hyperbole, much?

Anyway, this merely means that you did not buy enough of them. It's all your fault.

oh, i bought plenty. i haven't used a non-fuji color film in years.

all of their 800 speed and 1600 speed films are gone. not a hyperbole. they were pretty unique and not easily replaceable . certainly not by a cam with a cheesy facade.

then don't insult me by mimicking the looks of a camera that is 100x better.

Why do we care what it looks like? Surely the traditional control scheme (which makes up most of the 'retro' look) is a step forward for a P&S? It is all subjective, remember.

That is not all of Fuji's good films. It's a subset, and it's not even the subset of their best films, IMO.

wait, when did this happen? do you have a source for this?

Yes. Fuji, on the phone last month. :)

I was alarmed that B&H had listed some of these as gone, so I called to confirm. Sadness followed, now it's obviously turned to rage. rawr!

But really, am I really the only one who sees this as pandering?

...I have to say a fixed lens camera for a $1000 is a little hard to justify especially when there is no information about lens quality, sensor quality and general performance of the camera. A lens adopter over the existing lens has been around for P&S cameras but still its glass-over-glass no matter how negligible the image quality degradation...
You don't sound as if you're talking from experience but from theory. In posts #1188 and #1201, I stated that in my experience the 21mm wide-converters for the Ricoh GRD2 and GRD3 cameras did not degrade the image and even maintaided the maximum aperture of the base lens. Indeed, I was surprised to see how good they are, having always thought that lens converters were infra dig — but using them I found that their quality can be compared to the Elmarit-21 ASPH lens.

But most importantly changing of a lens is not usually about focal length, more often it is upgrading to a better quality lens, which in case of a fixed lens camera is impossible...
Really? No, most people want to be able to change lenses to use different focal lengths.

Please take your rage and rant elsewhere; this thread is not about film, or disappointement over products discontinued, but about the planned new Fuji X100 and related issues. Just enjoy the topic, if you can. :)

I don't think it's off-topic to point out the condescending nature of the product's styling, especially in light of their recent film decisions.

Introducing a product that ticks off just about everything on my list of wanna haves in this type of camera...that kind of condescension I could use a great deal more of.

Console yourself with the 6x7 film cameras they've recently introduced.

^------- +1, with spirit.

Yes, that. Exactly.

Cameras that look and work like cameras. I really like that.

I'll buy this camera...

When, in 10 months, five competitors have released better cameras with interchangeable lenses and larger sensors-- and the price has dropped $500.

.......As it was I had to sell the great AIS 180/2.8 ED to make tuition one year :-(.

I feel your pain. I sold two Leica M, LOT of M and LTM glass, five Bessas and a couple of Nikon F2s and a S3 kit two years back. It helped pay for food, mortgage and health insurance after we went through our 401Ks during a long bout of unemployment. It sucks but the alternative sucked a lot more.

In the end it's only stuff, that we were lucky enough to have while we had it. ;-)

That's a nice dream. I hope it comes true. But given that up to now NO ONE but Father Leica has gotten the VF right... and I can't think of a comparable APS-C camera + lens, even in the mature DSLR space, that comes in at that price point.
