Have You seen the new 35/1.4 Nokton?

Agree with BillP as I've bought all my RF gear from Aperture and they're exceptionally helpful and sell new as well as second-hand stuff. They also seem happy to do a deal for the right trade-in.

Interesting approach to things. I remember a while back someone saying that Prez K would not come out with a lens of the same focal length as Leica (directly competing). Are the gloves off? Does he feel that the signature of the lens, not being that of the ASPH gives him enough distance? Is the lens hood reversible? Who shot JR? Inquiring minds want to know!!!

Now I see.
They've made a Nokton 40mm in 35mm. If it's the equal of the 40, they'll certainly sell.

I think it's not just the signature, it's the relative sizes of the things.

The 40mm Nokton gets a lot of love around here and if this matches it, people without 40mm framelines will chose this instead.

Has anyone taken a look at the price? The 40mm 1.4 Nocton is listed at $349 on Cameraquest. The 35mm 1.4 is listed at 75,000 yen on the Cosina site which translates into $700 at today's exchange rate.

(There will now follow a large random selection of posts about the fall of the dollar. Olsen? 😀)

I'm guessing that an f1.4 lens of that size isn't going to be a 'state of the art' performer. I'm also guessing that even if it performs exactly like a Ver. IV 35 Summicron with an extra stop, it'll get slammed for having "harsh bokeh." 😱 😀
 
Yes but the 40 Nokton is listed at 50,000 yen. So a 50% increase on $349 = ~$525

Compare this with $400 for the Ultron and $800 for the Nokton and it seems quite cheap. The M replacements for the LTM lenses have been slightly more expensive. My guess would be around the $600 mark.

Interesting. Very similar in design to the pre-asph Summilux. One more almost
flat element in front of the aperture. Hopefully it will come out soon.

Note that what is called "harsh bokeh" in the 40 Nokton usually is called
"character" in the pre-asph lux 🙂
 
Very interesting indeed, not the lens I was expecting Voigtlander to come out with. I guess this means we cannot expect a Zeiss 35 1.4 in the near future then.

It looks pretty neat though, and given the 40 1.4's reputation im sure it will be a nice little lens. Might be enough for me to rethink my current 35mm lens if the price comes out ok and not at 700 dollars....
