Have You seen the new 35/1.4 Nokton?

I'm guessing that an f1.4 lens of that size isn't going to be a 'state of the art' performer. I'm also guessing that even if it performs exactly like a Ver. IV 35 Summicron with an extra stop, it'll get slammed for having "harsh bokeh." :D

I think we got all the way to post #4 before it got that particular criticism

The first sentence of the text (in japanese) mentions that classic lenses of the past are prized today for a signature that modern lenses do not have. Wide open it gets great bokeh, stopped down a little and it draws very sharply: a lens enabling a wide range of expression.

My guess would be around the $600 mark.

The list prices on the site are all way over actual street prices, whether in Japan or in North America. My guess, based on comparison with the prices of the other lenses, is $400, unless Cosina prices go up across the board.

I think somebody must have mentioned it: it's a symmetrical lens design.

The SC version looks might tasty.

just a question - would the "high refractive index" glass and the relation to the "classic" 40/1.4 asph imply that this lens is also using aspheric elements?

If you have a 35mm 1.4 Summilux, would you really need a 35mm 1.4 Nocton?

The old Summilux takes weird filters and has, um, "interesting" performance wide open. The new Summilux is very expensive and big.

If past trends hold true, then the VC lens will come very close to Leica performance at a fraction of the price. And it's wonderfully compact.

AFAIK the 40 has only spherical elements and I would guess so does
this new lens. Usually CV indicates ASPH surfaces in the lens diagrams.

Roland.

Do I need another 35mm lens? Hmmm... probably not. On the other hand - heck yes! What to sell? 40mm Nokton? - nope, too nice on the R3A, and somehow I think there may be a lot of them on the market soon. 35mm Summilux? - this new Nokton would have to be some great performer for me to let the Summilux go. 35mm UC-Hexanon? -maybe, but after I pick up one of these and shoot it for a while.

The answer is: yes. Sell the Lux, buy the Nok, and with the difference you can make a photo shooting holiday week somewhere on this planet!
:)

If it does, indeed, render like an older lens, it could replace both my 35/1.2 nokton and 35 UC hexanon. In my dreams, it will be the perfect compromise between those two lenses.
Then I can take the extra money and go shopping for something else for the kit.

I expect to see a lot of 40mm Noktons come on the market with this lens. Many people who wanted a compact 35/40 have been tolerating slightly inaccurate framelines and going with the 40. Now they don't have too. I think the popularity of the 40 f1.4 for people with cameras that didn't even have 40mm framelines was the motivator for this lens.

No doubt the R4A was in mind when this was designed.
Perhaps this lens in the pipeline explains the lack of 40mm framelines on the R4A?

Not to mention the f1.2 35s that are just too big, and not really that much faster than the lux, that will be flooding the market.

I may be able to help out there……..if anybody is thinking along those lines  :D

You said it, Kevin! I wouldn´t mind it being LTM, though - my Canon P has nothing against CV lenses. Neither will the 7Sz after a week or two of breaking in to new house rules...

The 1.4/35 is listed at 75.000 yen/$700.

The 1.2/35 is listed at 135.000 yen/$1260. As we know, the 1.2 sells at $819.

Using that (and the same correlation for the 15mm) as a guide, I'd expect the 1.4/35 to be c$455.

That's one to watch!

FWIW Why look for a European dealer? I've almost never bought any gear in Europe. Selling gear here, on the other hand...
