I just saw Ann Curry with BrIan Williams on tv from Haiti wearing what looked like an M9 with a new wide angle Summilux!

I guess she's upgraded... she had an M8 at Darfur and at the Obama inauguration.
I believe she has/had an exhibit in Westm Palm Beach recently.

My fiance and I run a nonprofit (redeeming waters.com) and have provided much medical aid and water filtration systems to Haiti over the years. Many of our friends are now feared dead, we can not get through to them. It is so sad.

Yeh,
This situation sucks in Haiti. I saw he'll in Gaza in the 1990,s and NEVER forgot it!
I have been following this horrible story as well and my heart aches. I just posted this because it made me think of something else (taking a break from the headlines). I do want to see her work however, and it will be nice to see Leicas contributing to public awareness!

I just heard from a friend who was in Haiti for a new Priest's ordination. His sister-in-law works in a hospital and I feared the whole bunch dead, but they are OK. So, don't assume the worst. Having said that, disease will be a big problem in the following weeks. Water filtration will be a big issue.

Enjoy Life.
In the spirit of "Leica Spotting" I saw a M8 in the movie "All About Steve" which I watched the other night. Very nice placement actually, some looooooong shots of the camera, they must have shelled out a few bucks in ad dollars.
As for the movie it was terrible, don't bother.

Donate a decent check for the effort in Haiti, to a charity that you know. One of the few events that I just dropped by the Church and wrote a check for the mission that is supported by the Diocese down there.
Way to tragic to just listen to news reports about. Probably the best action for most of us is to donate money to help the effort. Cheers for the rescue workers and others moving in to help. Prayers for those hit by this tragedy.

One of my good friends (best friend of my gf of 4 years) is Haitian and the majority of her family still lives in Haiti (her and her parents are stateside, along with some cousins etc) and they've not heard any news from the father's side of the family. The mother's side all lived in Port-au-Prince and are all ok, houses destroyed, sleeping in the streets, nothing that serious.
As bad as it sounds, it angers me a little how quick the response has been and how everyone is trying to help out when we (here in Louisiana) were essentially forsaken by our own government and civilians (hurr they should've never built there to begin with et al).
Best to those in Haiti though. My girlfriend and I are trying to get down there to help as I've been through a similar situation and have enough medical knowledge that I think I could help

Here are some simple ways to donate.
Be careful how you send money to whom, there are scams already popping. The two I listed above are legit according to my fellow local station KTVU.

KTVUTo donate to the Red Cross, mobile users are texting the word "Haiti" to the number 90999. Snyder said the money is coming in at a rate of roughly $200,000 an hour. As of Thursday afternoon, people had donated $5.1 million.
Other charities, such as singer Wyclef Jean's Yele, were also collecting mobile donations. To send $5, donors can text "Yele" to the number 501501.

This is what I did as did so many others. It is so easy to do and if we all just donate 10 bucks it will make a HUGE difference. Please facebook this or twitter it.

Quite, all that they seem to have is lots of people with cameras, and rather little of everything else.
Truly terrible, and it seems that it will remain that way for a long time to come. Most of the men and women will have left with their cameras by then, few will think of it often.

My wife and I donate to Medecins sans Frontieres every year and have done so again after the quake. They are a good organization and because Haiti was in dire straits even BEFORE the earthquake, they are already there on the ground. http://www.msf.org/
Catholic Relief Services is also there. http://crs.org/

I was also going to suggest MSF. I'm making a donation in memory of someone -- my paternal grandmother, who was both a nurse and such a loving person. She would have had her heart going out for everyone in Haiti.

I hope she has somewhere she can charge the batteries!
As for the Haitians I hope the monies donated will be used for the people who need it. Red Cross & the ones mentioned here I trust, Our Government I don't. I'll give my support to Samaritans Purse. (Franklin Graham). Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg Va. is sending 20 million in aid. If & when this is all over with which I know will take years, if Haiti is not a better place to live then we will have failed in some way.

Thats good of you! Maybe the money donated to Al Kaplan can be sent to help the Haitians in his name!

I thought about that ... I'll contribute to the Al Kaplan memorial as well. If they converge, great. If not, all is one anyway.
