LEICA M8, 1st GOLDEN TICKET!!!

if we ask this of EVERY new member then perhaps it would not appear so rude.

so, maybe as a pre-requisite for posting in this thread, everyone needs to post a pic of themselves in a mirror or with the words, 'joe is a wonderful moderator' written in very large print.

c'mon people, if this guy is a fake then so be it - no harm done so far - and if he is the real deal, well then, very cool for us.

Seal, can you provide proof that you are the real Seal and not someone who is just having us on?

I thought the "Real Seal" was that thing you find on packages of cheese:

Seriously, he seems to be a nice guy and he's willing to share knowledge and informed opinions, so other than that, who cares?

(I gather that there's a "Seal" who's some kind of non-photography celebrity, but pfft, we're supposed to be above that kind of thing on RFF, aren't we?)

"Seal, can you provide proof that you are the real Seal and not someone who is just having us on?

Show us a photo of yourself with rff written on a paper "

Robert,
I rarely need to prove my identity, but the reaction from this Forum is so welcoming that to set minds at rest I will satisfy your request.

If you're up to speed on this thread, you'll know I'm touring Europe and I have to pop out for a sound check for tonight's show. It's not inconvenient, but I'll be more relaxed later and can devote a little more time to it.

You'll find lots of portraits of me at work on my website, but touring is hard work and those pics show me at my best. I'll admit to putting a few pounds on recently, but in no time at all I'll be down to my fighting weight.

Been playing with it all day and it's real exciting. Heidi loves using it and ownership is starting to transfer. I'm real grateful to those Solm's guys for gifting me this. You know, I did meet them, but only for a short time while on a personal factory tour and I was knocked out to receive this baby.

I've sent them, well my agent has 'cos I'm touring, a full set of my releases.
Least I could do.

The sound guys are a knocking, so I need to go, but I'll return later.

Good to hear the news is spreading. We could all do with a lift.

Been looking at some of your galleries today. WOW, you guys are good. Great images men. Really impressed by your stuff. George man; you are good.

Sorry gotta fly. Be back soon. Heidi.....Hi !

Hello Seal
I would be interested to know about your photography interests, what type of subjects do you like to shoot and are you able to wonder about taking photos like the rest of us or are you dogged by “Cockroaches”?

Man, I keep telling myself that I don't "need" an M8 since I'm quite happy with my RD-1. Yet I can't help but read the posts about latest sightings and images and impressions... even this whole long thread which has strayed pretty far from the camera itself by this point.

Doesn't help that with all the M8 talk I've been grabbing my M6TTL instead of the RD-1 as I head out the door and thinking "hmm, this real Leica body sure handles nice."

Guess I'm a goner...

Thanks Charlie-Seal-Ascender-Rolo for the insight. I look forward to more user impressions from you (and other early adopters, as M8's start to appear in the wild)...

I couldn't resist so I've just poped in for the same reasons as most of the "non-regulars" here. As a great fan of yours I plead you not to give up the day job no matter how much you love the M8! Keep the music commin....

On a different note, I am just curious as to what type of photography interests you - if you care to share?

All the best on the tour.....

All the best on the tour.....

Good, we need more women members here! Since you are obviously busy, maybe she'd like to share her impressions of the M8. ;)

waaaaait a minute. seal is married to heidi klum? when did this happen?

Oh, you caught that too.

All this camera talk clouding the important stuff.

Yah, I asked my wife the same question. She looked at me like I was some kind of alien.

Must get tiresome to always be in the spotlight.

Edit: Having posted that thread it struck me that I would never post a thread containing photos of another forum member that I didn't take - or got permission - to post. In a way that just fuels the paparazzi existence.

So I'm deleting the link to the pumpkin patch photos of Seal and his family (and the Leica M8 he is sporting in the photos)

Well,

I for one welcome Seal, Heidi as well if she were to join ;)

Feel free to post your work with the M8 as soon as its handy.... looks like your already having a ton of fun with the thing.

Are you thinking of getting the tri-elmar?

I'm convinced Charlie :)

Either you are who you say you are or you're one of the roaches (paparazzi) at the pumpkin patch on the 14th. I doubt it's the latter because those roaches wouldn't know what a Leica or rangefinder is if one was placed in front of them.

Hope the tour in Eastern Europe goes well and looking forward to your next M8 report.

I'm confused. Who is the e-mail provider? I'd like to avoid them, they sound technically and unreasonably restrictive.

While other user reports will begin to trickle out in the near future, I'm dying to hear more about the high ISO performance of the M8. Charlie -- could you tell us more about your low light/high ISO shooting experience with this camera? (All in due time, of course -- it's not as though you have nothing else to do other than to satisfy our curiosities!) ;)
