Leica to announce a new M-mount M6 film camera in Oct 2022

... Weirdly, I am interested in an M2.
The M2 has always been my favorite M. A metered M2 would be awesome!

Do you think it’ll cost more if there’s a “dot-delete” option?
Is this a trick question?

If Leica was actually producing M cameras at 100% capacity up until now, how are they going to produce more in order to meet the demand for a less-expensive M-camera? Maybe train a 3rd person? 🙄

Of course, "100%" doesn't necessarily mean that everything's fine. I hadn't noticed this article before, but wonder if Leica is sitting on a bunch of partially completed M bodies:

A due date nearly 5 years into the future doesn't sound like things are OK to me. Maybe M6 is a Plan B which will allow them to turn incomplete cameras into saleable product.

Who knows what effect lockdowns in Tianjin have had on availability of machine tool parts. I mention Tianjin because it seems that's where at least part of their CNC tools hail from as seen in this Leica Portugal video:

I've still got my fingers crossed for an M-mount IIIg coming out of nowhere.

Hell, I'd even take an M-mount Leica II if they really want a budget option. Just give me that small Barnack form factor - awkward bottom loading and all - but with the option for modern lenses.

Never going to happen but a guy's gotta have dreams, right?

As my mom always said, "Don't hold your breath."

Sure is great to see ANY new 35mm film camera released in the Digital Age.

No, it wasn’t. I don’t want a red dot.

Why does your M2 have an M6-style battery cover where the self-timer should be?

Unless… YOU have the new M and this is a leaked photo!

The real question is how well the new M6 will compare to used M6's

price
workmanship
features

The new M6 can't look too good - or new flagship MP sales would suffer.

butter up the popcorn and enjoy the show

You are right; they can't cannibalize the Lux and will probably follow the path of the SE digitals. Aluminium top and bottom plates of the Typ 262 (or perhaps carbon fibre) with a matte grey colour instead of shiny black paint or chrome.

Chromed plastic top and bottom plates a la Praktica, made in China and a speed selection from 1/30 to 1/500 of a second. Price? 3.200 Euros, 4.900 in black paint and without red dot 🙄
Leica China AG sounds nice, doesn‘t it? 😛

Doesn't sound nice, but it does sound possible...
I suspect that Cosina will be watching these Leica shenanigans very closely, and watching the public's response. Maybe they'll be inspired to bring back the Bessas! Bang for the buck: even at $2,000.00, say, many RF shooters would opt for a Bessa over a cheapified Leica.

I've always wondered about Cosina and the Bessa (both the 135 and 120 versions). It really wasn't that long ago that they were discontinued (only a few years before the current film resurgence ironically enough...). I wonder if they still have all the tooling?

Cosina would have to be looking at the resale value of the Bessa models and considering whether a market for a new camera is there? Not to mention that they are still actively (and agressively) developing their VM lens line.

A resurrected Cosina bessa iii or fujifilm GF670.. But neg size selection 69, 67 and 66 in the same camera with a 80-90 f2.8 lens. I would snap one up. Rolleiflexs and Makina 67 sell because of the fast f2.8 lens. Osina could easily do this. Second hand prices for GF670 are nearly £3k. I am sure they ciuld price it to make a orofit and fir it to sell.
I am watching this Leica release with interest.

Same here. I have the Leica equipment I need; more than I need, actually. No new Leica for me, regardless of what it looks like. But I'm very interested to see how the film community reacts in its purchasing. The release of a new high-quality film camera is hugely significant for our community and a possible bellwether predicting more releases from other manufacturers.

I have an idea for the new M.

From reading another thread, about print borders, there are people who enjoy making or enjoy seeing prints where distinctive notches in the film frame appear in the print.

Negatives from a Hasselblad, for example, have a distinctive notch. Seeing this in the print, you know the image was made with a Hasselblad. Another example, which I’m going to employ with my Pacemaker Speed Graphic, is the appearance of septum numbers in the image when a six-sheet Grafmatic film holder is used (These are the digits 1 to 6 corresponding to the septum the film sheet was in. Some photographers remove the number disk from their Grafmatic, however).

So rather than make yet another trivial variation on M6, then what better way for owners to subtly display their Leica ownership than by having the film gate contain special notches that only this new M6 has. Indeed, the notches could even be something like /\/\ signifying the Leica M.

By this logic you can also buy a print that you are satisfied with - and that's the same as being there, remembering the experience of the scene etc...

It is not the same for me.

What logic are you referring to?

I'm talking about making MY photographs and being satisfied with them. I buy prints that OTHER PEOPLE make too, and some of them are lovely. But those are two entirely different experiences.

No idea what you're talking about...
