lens line up change...

You could also sell (almost) everything and start over with a Sony a7 and your Canon LTM glass. Just saying...

now that would be proof that i was beyond hope and completely addicted to gear and that the hope of changing gear would make me a better photographer.

lens line up:
My Contax G2 set included the fabulous 21mm, the 28mm, 45mm and the 90mm. I would be very happy to end up with the equivalent for my X-Pro1.
I am halfway now, owning the 14mm, 35mm and the 60mm. Since I also own the X100s the above focals are taken care for, but not perfect.
Next on my list is the 23mm 1.4 and next year I can hopefully swap the 60mm 2.4 for the 56mm 1.2. and I am done. (for some time anyway . . . )
Don't know if I?ll keep the X100s afterwards It is nicely mall and silent, but I don't shoot with it as much as with the X-Pro1 which somehow feels a lot better.

Joe, I think if 35mm eq is what you are comfortable with and you do not mind the balance on X-E1/2, then i think you should definitely get it. I played with it last weekend on an expo and it is superb. Good think I am more a 50mm person.

For me, I would rather not have duplicate focal length between X100 and X-E+23 since I would probably stick a different lens on the X-E and have 2 focal lengths ready to go without having to change lens. However, I understand what you mean by different feel all together between the two cameras.

Now, if money is no object, of course your 3 lens should probably be 14, 23, 56 ;)

Cheers

i'm not so much interested in the 56 for some reason. i really like the 60…smallish, very sharp and every now & then the close up factor comes in handy.
i think a 14/23/60 is ideal for a 3 lens kit in the fuji line up.

this is alot simpler than you give credit for…it's a change of focal length…i'm not looking for a magic bullet or expect my level of talent to change…but i do expect to 'see' a little bit wider with the 23 as opposed to the 35!

You seem defensive. In all honesty I was trying to help.

I never said anything about your talent. I was just implying that the more you use the same piece of gear the better you know it.

I don't own any fuji gears anymore but my plan at one point was to have:
X100s and WCL-X100
X-Pro1 and 14mm, 56mm 1.2, 55-200

I figured that I could take most of my shots with the X100s, it's smaller and lighter than either XE-1 or X-Pro1. Plus I could put in the WCL-X100 on my pocket in case I needed a wider view.
The X-Pro1 with interchangeable lens was going to be used for the rest, the 14mm is such an amazing UWA lens, the 56mm I'm sure will be fantastic for portraits and the 55-200 I actually didn't mind using for those odd times I needed a longer focal length.

but basically if I needed to keep my lineup simple, it would have been:
X100s for 35mm focal length
X-Pro1 for 21mm and 85mm focal length

The 23mm 1.4 never piqued my interest as it was only 1 stop faster than the X100s and a bigger lens.
Plus there are some benefits with having 2 bodies.

sorry…i was feeling defensive…my comments were directed at a few of the posts/posters not just you…

i love gear and talking about it but sometimes i wonder where the personal comments are coming from…i usually post these type of things to get a discussion going not to get personal feedback…i should know better than to take it personally and then get defensive.

I sold a D700 with 24/35/50/85 setup for an X-E1 with the 18/35/60 setup. Even though the 35 was easily my most used lens, I'd convinced myself that the 28mm-e of the 18 would eliminate the need for both the 24 and the 35. And it turns out I do use the 28 way more (and more effectively) than I ever did the 24. But it also turns out I need a 35mm-e lens. I'll bring just the X-E1 and a single lens to dinner/parties my wife and I go to, and I've now taken both the 18 and the 35 (on separate occasions) to a few spots and found them to be too wide or long respectively for the shot I want. So I knew I needed a 23mm solution.

I went for the X100s. I got mine used for $1000, and it is like new. Great deal, really. I like that it adds a second body and that they effectively have the same sensor and image quality. I now can see a few different uses for my gear.

1.) Just bring the X100s, for moments where I want to travel very light
2.) Just bring the X-E1 and one lens, probably the 35, if I know that one lens will work (an outdoor gathering, for example)
3.) Bring the X100s and the X-E1 with the 60mm and nothing more. Great pairing, no lens changes.
4.) Bring the whole kit, for a specific goal or for travel.

I like having all of these options. For me, the X100s (in like-new condition) for $1000 just killed the idea of getting a 23mm lens that's a stop faster, much bigger than my other lenses, doesn't have an extra camera body attached, and would need a newer body (X-E2) in order to be as fast as the X100s, all for only $100 less than the X100s cost me.

As it stands, my first upgrade priority will be that X-E2/X-Pro2. After that, the 14, 56, and 55-200 all seem possible. I'd take a 90mm/2.0 if they made it. And I'd upgrade my 18 or 35 if they reissued them with the manual scale focus clutch found on the 14, 23, and 56. But none of these things are priorities (except a body with PDAF pixels). I could reasonably see myself not buying another lens for years.

...but typing that just now feels like absolute folly...

You change your kit often mate as I also do. To many folks this would be a luxury and possible just plain not an option (and therefore personally frustrating).
To be honest the reactions you get from people sometimes should be expected.

I'm not saying it's right for others to vent their frustration on you in fact I think it's wrong.
The suggestion is rather..... put on your thicker skin the days you post threads about yet more gear changes coming on your horizon.
Like it or not those threads touch some folks off and that seems to rile you up when frankly, at this point you should come to expect mixed reactions and replies.
It's the internet not a bar or living room. We don't really know each other multi-dimentionally. There is little context here other than past posts and threads.
I don't mean to over speak on the subject. Just trying to be objective as a long time viewer.

Cheers!

i guess you may have hit the nail on the head…
my goal isn't to rile people up but i can see where that might happen.
to be clear…gear is a priority in my life…over eating out or travel or driving a newer fancier car. i keep things in my life basic and to be honest i think that i keep my gear pretty basic too…especially when you look around and see what truly expensive toys are out there!
the only thing more important than gear is the images that i make…too bad i don't get as strong a reaction about them as i do gear!!

i should let you all know…i bought the 23 this morning!
i'll soon be posting ads for the 27 & 35…

Ok so I am waiting on a silver X-E2 with zoom kit. I was loathe to get the zoom but since the other lenses I would be using would be M-mount legacy lens. This way if I need to take a commercial money shot I could use the Zoom then for my art shot use my Leica and Voigt lenses. At least that's the plan.

Myself.....I'm good with all of that. Carry on....

I really admire your honesty here, most people would not admit to prioritizing gear the way you have. I think most of us do think about gear more than we admit to, I certainly do.

Only thing I will say, is that if you favour gear over travel, you are, to a point, favouring gear over the images you make. I think frequently, the photo opportunities will not come to you, you have to go to them.

But back to my point, kudos for your honesty.

i think it's difficult to make a good image elsewhere if you can't do it at home…
truth be told…i like the idea of being somewhere else but hate the travelling itself, especially these days with all the hassle involved.

i know it might sound silly, but there is a part of town that i am drawn to and my greatest desire is to make some great images there!

and i have travelled some…i was born in brooklyn new york, live in western canada…been to europe…love the sea and the mountains and marvel at the beauty of the prairies...

Fair enough, if you're lucky to live somewhere where you want to take pictures, all the better.

Bold bit: I feel exactly the same, I wish they'd hurry up and develop teleportation or something.
