Let's see your Leica M

After saving up for some months, and selling my mountainbike, i finally was able to buy my first Leica!
Picked it up in Munich on monday. It's a completely different experience in comparison to my Canon AE-1P, which I lost on the train some weeks ago...
Hopefully it will be a good companion on many adventures to photograph graffiti on trains, or to explore lost places!

Edit: How do I post flickr-pictures here? With "Insert Image" and the link it doesn't work *fixed, thanks helen!*

For future reference of anyone not sure (the question comes up a lot). The easiest way is as follows. Open Flickr in a browser then open the relevant image and on the lower right of the page you will find there are a series of links to tools, one of which looks like a curved arrow. Select this tool, it's the tool for sharing an image.

When it opens you will find several options - select the one for BBCode which provides the proper code for sharing with the RRF then from the drop down menu that appears, select the size of the image you want to post (1024×760 or 1200×960 seem best for RRF ) then copy the highlighted HTML code that appears to your clipboard. Simply paste that HTML into your RRF post and you are done. Its easy when you know how.

I like Wetzlar, so what, shoot me! :D

My recently returned black chrome M4. Needed a new body shell as the original was cracked and glued back together. An MD-2 donated one but the self timer and frame selector were dispensed with as a result. Its had a hard life and may well have been a cruise ship photographer's camera originally (apparently a batch of black chrome M4s were actually bought for this purpose). Working ok now though just need time to put a film through it.

Nice chrome kit. What 21mm vf is that?
Thanks. I just wish I could find all filters in chrome, too. :(

The viewfinder is the CV 21/25mm metal viewfinder. I had the plastic CV 21mm before but the crooked lines drove me crazy (not level), so this one is a nice step up in terms of optical and build quality, and its smaller, too.

I'm getting some new skin for my MP, as well as having the 75/135 frames masked out so it's going to be lightly customized to my liking as I'll never be selling it anyways. I thought about having that done with the M-A as well, but honestly the 75/135 frames are just tiny dots on the M-A so it's easy to ignore.

I'll post up a pic when I get it back!

Who's masking off the frame lines for you? I've often thought about doing that as well so I have a less cluttered viewfinder like my old M2. Figured I'd have it done when I get around to swapping out the top plate.

Youxin offers that service, it's not too much on top of his already reasonable CLA price. My camera was working fine but it had been accumulating dust in the VF so I'm having him clean it out and reseal it. As well as other little things like tightening the film rewind knob so it doesn't spin loose if you let go.

Why are you swapping the top plate on your camera?

BTW - We should meet up and go shoot sometime! I live in OC but I work in LA so I'm usually there during the week.

My brother lives in Costa Mesa, and I see him about once a year. Be great to meet up on my next visit, perhaps timed for camera show in Buena Park.

I'd like to swap out the top plate with the old 'Leica AG' script on top. Ideally I'd prefer the M2/M3 engraving (Leitz/Wetzlar), but it seems like you can only get the newer 'Leica Camera AG Solms Germany' script nowadays.

I'm always game to shoot. Let me know next time you're in town and available.

If it's the camera show I went to last year, that's a huge waste of time (IMHO). Only plus side is the fact there's a Portillos right down the street!

Just shot them an email. Suppose it doesn't hurt to ask, thanks!

Now that Leica has returned back to Wetzlar, maybe it's possible to order a top plate with Wetzlar instead of Solms? I'd write to their customer service department directly in Germnay and ask: cs@leica-camera.com

The new M-A has a Wetzlar script which is loads better looking than the 'Leica Camera AG Germany' script from the M9P and the last few years

In reality, I still want them to engrave it like my M2's. Seeing as I'm paying for it, I don't see why this isn't possible and that's the frustrating part. I'm even okay with the newer style font.
