Let's see your Leica M

really nice M4BP congrats on the 'intersting' Leicavit-fit upgrade. this makes probably the best user-leica anyone could wish for.

On the inside front cover of his book "Proof" there is a bag shot with I think 4 BP M4s, one has a 35mm pre-asph, another a 21mm SA. (I think the others are a 50mm cron and a 28mm elmarit, but I'm not sure)

Just looked at my copy of Proof ... yep and a Leica SLR.
I`ve been talking about getting a 21 SA for as long as I can remember .... maybe this year ;)

Gabor,

Hope you’ll reunite with your M4 soon. 35 Pre-ASPH Lux is a lens I’ve never owned. I’d really love to one day. I so wish it could be modified to focus down to 0.7m like v1 (too expensive for me). This is my first SA, it is built like tank.

brennanphotoguy,

My personal fav (just visually) with black paint Leica is polished silver lens like SA 21/4 above or Option Sonnar. I know both I mentioned are not made by Leica but they sure look nice together. Nice 8-element Cron you got there. I had it once with marks on lens. Loved the overall rendition but it was a little too hazy/dreamy due to the condition . I’d love to try a clean copy one day.

Michael,

Maybe one day I’ll try the 3.4 version as well. I do like original SA for its LTM compatibility and small/common filter size. I’ve taken some test shots on film at Leica Store SF borrowing their lens, and that came out nicely.

Travis,

Great combo you got there and cool background story. I was testing the water with CV 21/4, and over time I grew to really like 21mm. If I had to choose 3 focal lengths to live with for good, I’d take 50, 35, and 21mm.

Thanks, benlees! Good user’s kit ready for action. :)

Dirk,

Thank you. Kind of crazy the WHOLE setup in my last photo costed less than HALF of M10 price. Lol. I know it’s not just money but still. I think I am done with my GAS for a while.

Fraser,

Wow. I so hope one day, one day I’ll be able to teach myself how to service M.

Maitani,

I see you pulled back your M4 BP sale. That M4 is a beauty. I hope you’ll keep and shoot.

I wasn’t sure if I’d use Leicavit, and mod could be reverted for the most part as the outfit included the original plate, but Sherry K did a masterful job and I think I’m liking the ‘vit this time around. I had it before on my M4-P but couldn’t deal with the size and weight. Now I’m used to M5, so that changed me I guess. According to the previous owner who heard from Jim himself, Jim had his M4 modified by Sherry to take original Leicavit MP so I guess it goes well with the theme. :)

Michael,

I’m looking forward to putting the 21 SA in good use. I was using CV 21/4 for a year or so to test the water, and I am now a believer that 21mm works for me, and I lean towards older optical design for my b/w film so I hope the SA will treat me well.

Yeah, mine has been sitting around for a while because I shot it with the (significant) haze in it with b/w and it was super glowy. Then I shot some color with it and it looked like trash so I shelved it for a while and *finally* got around to having it serviced. It's got some internal coating damage from the haze I think but it'll be fine. I'm looking forward to seeing my results later tonight when I scan some stuff in that I'm developing right now.

Nice bit of info there on Jim Marshal, the Leicavit and Sherry Krauter Sug ;-)
I always loved a Leica M with Leicavit over a naked M as it improves the handling enormously. It does become a little heavier but it just grips so nicely + you can advance with your left hand.

After telling myself for years, that I want to own a Leica M at some point, the time has finally come. I sold of most of the stuff, that I got over the years and bought myself this M4-2 in very good condition.

The seller then also told me, that he had a 50 Planar for sale and the price was very reasonable.

So here it is, my very first Leica M :)

Saw this earlier on Instagram. Congrats, Oliver. I think the combo will do really great for you for many many many years to come.

Thanks Sug!

Yes, I think I made a good decision on the Planar.
The money saved will be helpful towards a 35 and then I'm set for now.

Oliver, very beautiful camera and lens! I had the Planar some years ago and it was a great performer... hope you will enjoy it a lot!

Sug... lovely camera and lens you have! I'm waiting for my Black M5... I hope it will arrive tomorrow. I have bought a silver Voigtlander 35mm 1.7 Ultron for it... How it will feel in my hands???

Ah! And I have an HP5 Plus ready for it... ;-)

Finally it has arrived today. Here you have some photos:

The song in my head: "You are so beautiful..." :)

And now, I need to learn how to put the film in this camera!! I'm going to read the manual... :)

Congratulations with your new M5. The camera looks very good indeed.

Don't forget to fold the rewind lever into the bottomplate before you start to advance the film. The film transport is blocked when the rewind lever is out.

Erik.
