Gabor,
Hope you’ll reunite with your M4 soon. 35 Pre-ASPH Lux is a lens I’ve never owned. I’d really love to one day. I so wish it could be modified to focus down to 0.7m like v1 (too expensive for me). This is my first SA, it is built like tank.
brennanphotoguy,
My personal fav (just visually) with black paint Leica is polished silver lens like SA 21/4 above or Option Sonnar. I know both I mentioned are not made by Leica but they sure look nice together. Nice 8-element Cron you got there. I had it once with marks on lens. Loved the overall rendition but it was a little too hazy/dreamy due to the condition . I’d love to try a clean copy one day.
Michael,
Maybe one day I’ll try the 3.4 version as well. I do like original SA for its LTM compatibility and small/common filter size. I’ve taken some test shots on film at Leica Store SF borrowing their lens, and that came out nicely.
Travis,
Great combo you got there and cool background story. I was testing the water with CV 21/4, and over time I grew to really like 21mm. If I had to choose 3 focal lengths to live with for good, I’d take 50, 35, and 21mm.
Thanks, benlees! Good user’s kit ready for action. 🙂
Dirk,
Thank you. Kind of crazy the WHOLE setup in my last photo costed less than HALF of M10 price. Lol. I know it’s not just money but still. I think I am done with my GAS for a while.
Fraser,
Wow. I so hope one day, one day I’ll be able to teach myself how to service M.
Maitani,
I see you pulled back your M4 BP sale. That M4 is a beauty. I hope you’ll keep and shoot.
I wasn’t sure if I’d use Leicavit, and mod could be reverted for the most part as the outfit included the original plate, but Sherry K did a masterful job and I think I’m liking the ‘vit this time around. I had it before on my M4-P but couldn’t deal with the size and weight. Now I’m used to M5, so that changed me I guess. According to the previous owner who heard from Jim himself, Jim had his M4 modified by Sherry to take original Leicavit MP so I guess it goes well with the theme. 🙂
Michael,
I’m looking forward to putting the 21 SA in good use. I was using CV 21/4 for a year or so to test the water, and I am now a believer that 21mm works for me, and I lean towards older optical design for my b/w film so I hope the SA will treat me well.
