new 15mm Heliar M-mount

I like the new hood, and I suppose that M-mount makes sense to many; but I still don't understand the point of rangefinder coupling on a lens this wide and slow.
 
One way to increase the price is to drop the finder and include an M mount while keeping the retail price the same.

While I agree you do not need an RF coupled 15/4.5, but what about on a 20/4.5 or a 23/4.5 or (thinking way out there) a 30/4.5?

Using the 15 on a G1 shows just how sharp this lens can be when it is actually focused...having RF coupling is a good thing, IMHO.

The 25/4 Snapshot Skopar is one of my favourite carry lenses, and the main reason is because it's so quick to bring into action - and the main reason for that is because it's so easy to scale-focus. I use Voigtlander's (LTM mount) 12/5.6, 21/4, 25/4, 28/3.5, and 35/2.5, and the widest of these for which I feel the need for rangefinder coupling is the 35/2.5; and even then only at the faster end of the aperture range.

Having said that, if this new lens gains popularity then I may take the opportunity to snag an LTM 15mm to complete the range while the market's saturated. ;)

I find rangefinder coupling totally unnecessary on my CV 25mm. Zone focusing with the clickstops at 1M, 1.5m and 3M is perfect for me.

I honestly could not tell you if my CV 21mm was rangefinder coupled or not. I have just always zone focused it and never looked to see if the RF patch moved or not.

I zone focus my CV 28mm f3.5 more than I use the RF patch. There is just so much DOF there to work with.

FWIW, some of the original Zeiss 15mm Hologons were fixed focus.

Simply look up the DOF for some of these wide lenses and you will see why guessing at the focus works so well.

I agree the 25/4 is as close to perfect as I've ever found. The click stops make it the ultimate in handling speed for street and crowds. While I have it in S, it just does not handle the same. It's RF coupled and still just as sharp and fun.

The 15mm is the one that I would strongly recommend picking one up. It's a fun lens that I wish I could get for my S3. I'm searching for a Nikon F to S adapter so I can pick one up for my Nikkormat as well as my S3.

I sold one for a very good price a few weeks ago, sorry.

That has got to be one of the most ugly lenses I have ever seen. Besides it apears not to fit a 111f or 111c.

Might have to do with the fact that it is rangefinder coupled. I have a lens that is only coupled down to 1m and can be a little annoying if you forget while focussing and you drop down into the decoupled part of the range.
