HI guys and gals,

Well last Friday I viewed the first batch of photos to come of the printing press.

These were photos that were the most difficult to see as some of the details were dark BUT the guy who is doing all the collating of the pics for the book has done a magic job.

Once I had viewed them, I gave the go ahead to do all 370 B&W photos that will appear in the book. This will take two weeks of part time work at the printers. Brett who is doing the collating is wrapped (read ecstatic) as he is a camera buff in a small way and this is something different to the normal advertising blurp printing he does. The photos are in good hands. I do not want to rush the guy as it has been a long haul and the extra effort will be worth it. Once the photos are done, they are then sent back to Joel who has done the design and layout of the book. I have one last look at it all and then pay my deposit and the print is under way.

I will get the final book in hand roughly eight weeks (middle of October) after the start of printing. The binding of the books takes up most of the eight weeks as each hardback book is individually handled. The size of the book is L 300mm x W 210mm x T 20mm and will have 220 pages and weigh approximately 1750 grms (3.8lbs) after bubble wrap and packing. I am trying to get the total package under the 1750 grms, as the cost of Air Mail postage outside OZ is not cheap if that is the popular choice; Sea Mail is cheaper but takes longer. I am also working out with Australia Post to get a better deal with postage and if I can, I will pass that onto the buyers, this will make it more affordable.

Each book will cost $110.00 AU$ plus postage of around $45.00 AU$. The postage is still an unknown but if it is less I will refund the $$$ and if more I will contact the buyer but it should be around that price. Registered insurance is $6.00 AU$ extra.

The final disc has been delivered to the printers and I am accepting pre-orders via my website and payment can be made via Paypal which I think will suit most buyers. Otherwise Western Union, Bank drafts in OZ$ or good ole cash in US$.

This has been one hell of a learning curve for me as I have never written a book let alone self publish one but it has been enjoyable and if the final product turns out like I think it will then the info inside will be worth the nine years of research that has gone into it.

The front cover is now my AVTAR.

Cheers

Peter K

Peter:

Your timing is perfect as it seems the vintage Canon Lenses are now getting their just respect.

Thanks too for all your efforts.

Bill

I'm looking forward to your book, as well. Congratulations on working through the system... next time it will be a cinch, right?

Congratulations, Peter! I want a copy as well. I purchased a vintage Canon lens from you (on the evil-bay), although it was not an LTM.

Looking forward to it.

Another congratulations, Peter. What's the chance that those who pre-order your book can get a signed edition? Sorry, the collector in me had to ask. Anyway, I've been a regular visitor to your excellent site and have been waiting patiently for the rumored book. Is there still a plan to expand your website with info on accessories and bodies or will all your efforts be put to future books?

Steve

More sincere congratulations on the book, and the eminent publication. It's only about 6 years late, by my reckoning, but who'se counting...
A lot of work, probably thousands of emails as well as hours. And the next one will be a real test of patience and tenacity. This one was a great way to get in shape
I would think we'd all appreciate signed copies, but I would guess the books will come from the binder already wrapped and boxed. In that case, you might consider a signed bookplate, which has been done in the past. I think that would be acceptable to practically all of us.
International postage rates aren't getting cheaper, either.

Hi Peter,

Finally, the baby is coming.:) Congratulations.

Unfortunately I have been out of the collecting scene due to nursering my mother. She had cancer, but she is recovering fast now. After six weeks at the intensive care and 5 months recovering in a nursery home she is at home and now it is time to relax and start collecting again. Of course I will take a copy of your book and Wils would like one too. If you already want the money in advance, just let me know.

When you have delivered this baby I will get in touch with you to catch up and discuss the second print of the book, there are so many lenses available these days :)

I am looking forward to hear from you again.

Kind regards,
Ernst

Hi Peter, I never save but I'll make sure I have the readies for your first Canon volume. Perhaps one day I could cross the Treeless Plain and get you to personally sign my much thumbed copy.
Best wishes, Charles.

How about a Sticky

How about a Sticky

Joe/Kim,

This is significant. Peter is finally putting his fist baby (out of 3 progeny) to bed. How about a sticky?

Peter,

I look forward to the book - please put me down for a copy. Though I'm heading to Niagara Falls for a week with the DW & kids and taking my digital I'm also going to take my IV-Sb and try to recreate some of the shots my dad took back in 1964.

HI Steve,

Appreciate the pre-order and I have put aside book #777 as you requested. Each book will be signed if requested but most will be as a thank you. I have been working on the Accessory book for some time and now that #1 has been put to bed, I can concentrate more on that one. I decided to concentrate on the lenses and accessories, as there is nothing out there in the English language that deals with these items. Peter Dechert has done the cameras so will leave that book till last but what I intend to do is add to my website blog articles on various models of cameras and also work on the camera section. I will be looking into the development and evolvement of the S-II camera once I get some time. Peter

HI Harry

Did look at having the book boxed but the added expense made the bank account look even worse than it is now. Touché on the postal rates and if I can get it lower or find a better way to send the book that makes the total cost cheaper MAGIC. If I can then I will refund the difference to anyone who pre-orders a book and drop the price on my website but for the time being it is as is. I have put aside book #10 for you as I had decided to keep the first 10 but REALLY I didn't need 10 books so decided on #1,2 and #888 to remind me of the date it was finished and taken to the printers. Having been there, and done that, I know exactly what you mean. I appreciate having book #10, as I'm a book collector as well. Your choices are eminently sensible. I know the price is high, but service from Oz has been fast in the past, and I'm looking forward to getting mine in the next few weeks. Darn... that sounds good... I know it does to you, also.

Regards,

Harry

As I mentioned in another post, I have already pre-ordered, and am looking forward to receiving the book.
