I remember a member here on RFF spent grands to take the metering part of a MP out.

the mtf chart for the APO Cron 50 is otherworldly. pair the APO Cron 50 with the Elmar-M 24 f/3.8 ASPH. use them on the M9-M with its non-CFA equipped sensor. i believe the detail one would get will make one's eyes bleed. while i can't afford these tools, i admire what they'll do for those that can buy them. This kind of performance potential from a 135 format system as form-friendly as the Leica M is astounding.

Eight grand for a digital camera that can't take colour photos ... no thanks!
This will appeal to people who:
(a) Can't post process a raw colour file to get a satisfactory output.
(b) Want to own the first purpose built black and white digital rangefinder ... at any cost!
(c) Have the spare cash to suck up every offering that Leica comes up with.
I'm not against it ... I just don't see the point!

If Cosina were to produce a full frame Digital Bessa with frame lines covering focal lengths from 28 to 90 I'd most probably buy it and divest myself of some of the stuff I now have. But at the price of the new Leica it will not even be something I'll look at.
Of course, the Bessa would still take colour, but post processing in Silver FX would cover that and it seems you need to do it with the Leica anyway.
Just an afterthought - I wonder if the claimed performance of the new APO Summicron, even if proven, will be any better than my Rolleiflex can produce?

This constant barrage of new cameras that we're being subjected to at the moment has done my head in and finally turned me against the tide I think.
I've recently spent my spare cash on an RD-1, an OM-3 ... and am now thinking of getting some more lenses for my Hasselblad and stocking up on black and white MF film!
I don't care how good this thing is I know in my heart that a decent scan of a 6x7 or 6x6 correctly exposed black and white negative will kick it's arse tonally and will be very close for detail.

.... plus with a close to real-life gradation digital design engineers would keep on dreaming to achieve many years more to come..
(A sad fact that digital so far has caused a sort of degradation in the "standards" we see and assess B&W. I notice it each time when I look at older 35mm especially MF prints.)

But most of them look disappointing, no shadow detail, occasionally blown highlights, muddy midtones.
Sharpness and resolution are irrelevant if the photographs look like this.

You might get a bump in DR in the shadows because of reduced noise. Reduced noise not because the sensor 'has' less noise, but because you avoid introducing more noise with the de-bayer step.
I can't imagine that will take 9 stops to 12 though. I also can't see any way for highlight DR to be increased with the same sensor, which is what most of us filmies want. As far as I know, most sensor technology is pretty much the same there.

They ignored my suggestion of replacing the Bayer array with a clear/ND array.
That combo would have extended dynamic range at both ends while also increasing sharpness in the middle exposure zone where both darkened and clear cells were contributing information.

This camera roughly equals 60,000+ frames of Tri-X, of which can be rated anywhere from 200 to 6400.
