HU for refurbished Pakons. AAA has some for $250 again.

It's for the F135 not the F135+ . Smaller scanned file but, the FB page v3 Software still runs it.

n the Pakon f135 non-plus & Plus scanner. The non-plus scans at a (4 Base) 1000x1500ppi about 4x6 @300dpi & (8 base) 1500x3000ppi about 5x7 @ 300dpi files. The Plus scans at the (4 Base), (8 Base) and the (16 base) 2000x3000ppi about 8x10 @ 300dpi files. The Plus scanner is also a little faster then the non-plus scanner. If your goal is to have good looking files to look at on your digital devises like your computer, TV, phones or tablets the non-plus is all you need.

What about usuing Pakon for 16mm telecine? Could it accept smaller film and how feeding works (any registration)?

The Pakons can only take 135 (or 240 APS, depending on model)
The sprocket rollers would chew that 16mm up and mangle the film (if you got it to go in at all)
If you were to try I would suggest the F-235C or F-335C. They have an automatic 240 film feed and who knows, you might create something.
Maybe a machinist friend could create new rollers for you and mask out the open edges. Even then the frames would be way off.
It would take a lot of effort.

So better use 16mm projector and digicam or machine vision camera like Point Grey.

Got my hands on one of these and have managed to get it running on my 2014 Macbook Pro using VirtualBox and TinyXP. I can upload a zip folder of the software if anyone needs it. Black and white actually looks pretty good.
Has anyone tried this registry hack to get full 2000x3000 scans?

I'm a little nervous to try it, frankly.

I have it on and it works great!
The scanner still won't give you the full frame but closer to it than without the hack.
Enjoy the Pakon - I now have two just in case!

I looked in the proper folder and the key wasn't even there! Not sure how to do this...

These scans look pretty good, I gotta say. While I was waiting for the scanner to arrive I sort of perfected my DSLR-scanning technique and wondered if I should just re-sell the Pakon once I got it. (I didn't expect the DSLR method to work so well.) But I'm really pleased. The default scans are too high contrast, so I just select them all and dial it way back before I export. Here's some pictures from Auburn, NY, taken yesterday.

Sorry I already forgot what I had to do. Are you the FB group? If not search FB for Pakon - apply for the membership and the admin will add you in quick. Once in search there and you'll find all you need.
If still unsure post back and I'll dig it up. It's 1AM here and can hardly keep my eyes open.
Good luck,
Ben

I am not on facebook, I'm afraid, but I think that's where the hack I linked to came from, originally. Let me check again, maybe I looked in the wrong folder.

That Facebook group on its own worth the hassle to put up with FB.
For now I looked it up for you:
Code:
in the windows start menu: press "run" -> type "regedit" in the box -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> Pakon -> PSI -> Scanner Settings -> Framing -> 35mm -> Open Crop 35mm -> Base should be Hexadecimal and set the value to 0 and hit OK.
On top of that, I usually set contrast back by 5 (by selecting all pictures first) and I also set the tone to cool. It gives a more natural BnW. The photos are treated as RGB rather than grayscale and thus colors are actually present. The cool tone brings it back to looking like pure BnW.
Good luck,
Ben

Good day to you too!
Yes it can, I use it mainly with TriX and DoubleXX (Eastman 5222).
I have also used it with TMAX400 / TMAX100 successfully.
People say the Pakon shines best with Color as it also has the Digital ICE which doesn't work with BnW but to me even without the ICE the scans are superb and the speed is incredible. I can't even leave the room while it's scanning it's so fast.

Always Trying
G'day, use it with Polypan F, HP5+, Fomapan 100 and 200, it is fast, image quality is great in my opinion and my plustek stays in his bag more often.

Hey guys, thanks for pointing this out. Just did this little hack and am delighted with the extra area of the frame scanned!

Yeah, I got into the proper folder, but there is no DWORD key in there, for some reason. Perhaps I should just make one...?
Thank you for the cool tone idea! I hadn't noticed that setting and will try it out...

Thank you, Bence! It sounds like a good time saver for me because i shoot only black and white and tired from scanning with my Nikon. Less time on scanning - more time in the darkroom!

I see - so you didn't have that by default. In that case I would indeed just make one, it is a harmless setting so should be fine.
Cool tone is definitely the way to go!
Good luck and do post back if you are stuck please.

Funny you mention this - I am also spending a lot more time in the darkroom lately and not much scanning. However, with the Pakon is so little effort that I still scan all my photos for archival purposes but hardly do any photo shopping anymore. On the selected frames that I like I prepare in the darkroom and then scan with a flatbed.
Cheers,
Ben

Does anyone have this issue where they get a light band on the edge of the frame?
