Pro-2 with 35f2

As an FX newbie with "only" an X-Pro1 I suspect the current 18/2 would work acceptably will for me. Not having a lens of that focal length would be akin to Gretzky's maxim: You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

I always thought the 18 f/2 was one of the better original lenses on the XP1, certainly in terms of AF acquisition and speed. I still very happily use it on XP1 bodies for some work, though having recently bought the 35 f/2 I see a large step forward in so many areas compared to the original lens line up. I'd very much like the opportunity to try that lens on the XP2 and see whether it feels like a) a good marriage and b) a significant step forward for both lens and body design.

I can fool myself into believing I'm using a digital M with the more 'Leica' sized and shaped lens, add to that the much better manual focus feel and it both looks and feels all together more accomplished. I hate to throw money around but a 18mm f/2 v.II along the same lines would certainly make me think twice about the current 18mm....and that after what I said previously.

I've succumbed. Give me a few days for it to arrive before I say I love the combo BUT having played with a friends XP2 with my 35f2 and it pushed me into making a purchase.

I tried it on the XPro-2 two weeks ago when my XE-2s came in; and it was very quiet. On my XE-2s all I can say is it was silent. I just heard a rumor also about price increases coming on Fuji in Canada soon???? This info came out of Toronto, and I believe it to be true. I know you Nikon lovers will be happy with all the increases coming tomorrow; so nothing surprises me in this dollar exchange market?

It's just a joy to use. Fast AF, feels good in my hand (I actually like that it is big), EVF looks good, etc. It just works for my style of photographing and I prefer the rangefinder style body shape to SLR body shape. Plus, the results are nice. I loved the X-Pro1, but it was slow. This update addressed that.

have you tried an xe2...with or without the firmware upgrade?
wondering how the xp2 compares to the smaller/lighter body?

I just don't like the feel of the X-E2. It's too small and cheap feeling. I know it's a good camera, but just not for me. I like that the X-Pro series is Leica sized.

Perfect size and weight - just like my Zeiss Ikon

Fast - responsive body in terms of shutter response and af when using

Good ovf set up - a nice view

Controls

Works very well with legacy lenses - either using focus patch or evf. Note that magnified focus patch and ovf can be a bit awkward working close up with 50mm plus lenses due to parallax. That's when evf shines (it's the first evf I've liked)

More than adequate colour, mono, resolution and noise performacne for me. I've printed 24 by 16s of some of the snaps in my gallery and they're lovely.

Because it's not bigger. It's got more MPs, and that's nice and all... but the other improvements are more important.

Well, at the time (Fuji X100 and X-Pro1), it was the only option of its type. Every camera has shortcomings. And YES cameras can be slow when you are relying on automation to focus.

Xp2 is my first Fuji. I love it with the grip and 35F2. I must admit though that I am having more blown highlights than usual compared to the A7s but its likely to be operator error. Still learning how to deal with the highlights on the Xp2.
