Singapore Chapter of RFF

hello all again. thanks for the kind welcomes. I'll try to get round to emailing joseph yao. maybe next month as my hubby as just bought a treo 650 .
think my kids will have to learn to spell s-c-o-l-a-r-s-h-i-p...
its does seem like getting stuff from peter's contact is the best option here on the equator.

other than mental health, no not really thought of any other projects.

by the way, have you all checked out the sticky thread on clubsnap in streets and candids on captioned photos? its hilarious! rotfl stuff

Good choice! The Ultron is my favourite lens and for travelling that is the only lens that I need. So are you developing your own B&W negatives? I have stopped doing that since last year and I am using XP2 or Kodak BW400CN as it is very cheap to ask the local photo shop to just develop them as I scan the negatives myself. I just re-acquire the 75mm/2.5, great lens!

Sorry abit late in replying.. taiwan has very little net cafes due to them having such a good and cheap braodband service.

Yeap still experimenting, basically using TMAX developer and HP5 and sometimes TMX 400. Tried TMAX with Delta 100 not too impressed with it. Mostly now i use Porta400 VC, like the saturated colors and just ask the shop to scan when they develope it.

Yeap th 75/2.5 is one of my favourite too.

THe number of scooters here is simply amazing!!!!

Maybe you could give the XP2 a try since you are asking the shop to scan for you. Maybe you could also invest in a film scanner and the Minolta Scan Dual IV is cheap and good. Although you would have to brush and blow the negatives before scanning as it has no ICE feature. I have updated my gallery www.pbase.com/kepha/buloh with shots of field researchers and the shots were taken by XP2. Really good film and looks almost like a traditional B&W. Enjoy your trip in Taiwan and do show us the photos! 😀

How much does the Minolta Scan Dual IV cost locally? I might be in need of a scanner as well.

Nice Buloh pics. Last time I was there was probably 3 years back looking for insects to shoot.

Yeah, I used XP2 a lot last time too. Shot at 250, it looks very nice, smooth tones and good contrast. I still use it when I want to shoot portraits. Can hold overexposure quite well.

Another option is Kodak 400BW. Lower contrast but holds shadow details better at 400. Doesn't look as gritty as XP2 but is smooth.

Dear all,

I haven't been checking much in RFF recently but glad to see there's a bunch of local RF users! To intro, I"m a civil slave, I mean servant working in just another faceless paper pushing position and I use a bessa R3A having started as a SLR user. Nice to meet you all! So are you guys meeting up sometime?

dryonks: That's a very interesting project you have there, do you have any plans for that yet? Need any help?

Warmest regards
Darrel

Hi Darrel! Have not seen you around for quite a while! How's the preparation going? 🙂

You are right about the Kodak BW 400CN, it is my second favourite C41 film. I would use it when the XP2 stock at Ruby is dry. Really good film and very easy to scan compared to a traditional B&W. Do you use super fast film? I like the grain of Delta 3200.

Hey Peter, yep yep gonna get the keys soon, still preparing for stuff! How's your side? Still gg often to Ubin?

Very busy at the moment. Just resigned from my current hospital and moving to a new job next month. I got tired of doing research looking forward for the new clinical environment. Dr. Chew, we would be colleagues when you come back to Singapore! 😀

Hey Peter where are you working now? Pm me? I didn't know you were in the research area before, well I"m glad you got the opportunity to try different things! Maybe that will help your photography too, take more hospital photos from your new perspective! 🙂

hi darrel. since everyone seems so interested in this mental health thing I really should get moving on it. Peter, what was the initial red tape you ploughed through for your nurse project? you moving to TTSH? 🙂 which dept?

Wai Yong

Hi Wai Yong,

I am not going to TTSH but to NUH, Gastro. As for the red tape for taking photos in the hospital, the administration was concerned about patient consent. In Singapore there is no law regarding taking photos of patients in the hospital, so long the patient consented to taking of photos and no depiction of nudity. There should be no caption of the photo that reveals the diagnosis of the patient. I am not sure about IMH as the patients are under the Mental Health Act. I suggest that you really have to find out with your Head about this.

Hi Peter.

ok. will check with my chaps about it. As far as I know, the mental health act does not specifically mention photography, so really it would be the hospital's stand on it. will go poke my head into people's offices and see the outcome.

by the way, how's your R3A and 40/1.4 coming along? do you like it?
there's a guy who wants to sell his R3A on clubsnap. he just bought it from joseph yao. The lack of 35 mm framelines nags at me though.

and you're quite famous! (hee) everyone on rff keeps mentioning your nurses gallery

cheers

Yonks

Hope your wife doesn't see this thread Peter or else she's going to have a hissy fit with your new toys!

I think Wai Yong is mistaken! I never bought the R3A and 40mm/1.4! I am innocent! 😱

now i wish my hubby would buy lots of rf equipment instead of all that nikkon digital stuff! 😛

Maybe you show him the result of your RF work and he will be a convert? 😛 By the way, are you getting a film scanner too? Any particular model that you have in mind? Actually I am rather embarrass about the Nurses gallery as it is not my personal favourite. My personal favourite is the Taoist Festival gallery. 😀
