My take is that the trompe-l'œil effect in photography is obtained easier by photographing a real trompe-l'œil effect like inside St Paul's Basilica or just about any other subject in Italy, which is chock full of subjects to lend themselves the 3D treatment.
By the way, for at least the second time in this thread, the examples include a nice pair of knockers.
