Voigtlander 'Vintage Line' 50mm 1.5 ii

Very nice looking lens, the Panda one is interesting.

The body lines on this new CV Nokton lens remind me of the Canon 50mm f1.5 in LTM

Yes, good spot! That's exactly what it looks like, up until the flange on the aperture ring (which I think I'd appreciate having). Fortunately it's not as beastly heavy as that lens––this is just a hair shorter than the Zeiss C Sonnar. And lighter (the silver and black versions anyway), as light as the Zeiss C Biogon 35mm f/2.8.

The only thing I wonder about is calling it "vintage." The aesthetics might be vintage, but optically the lens layout looks somewhat like the Summilux ASPH. I'm not complaining, I suspect that I'll be signing up to get this, but it's interesting as far as the messaging goes.

Thanks for doing the legwork on comparing sizes and weights. It certainly reminds me of the C Sonnar. Crazy that this fast 50 can use the same filters and lens hood of my 35mm Nokton. I’ll most likely be in line as well.

Oh lord I'm into this one. And available on my birthday month.. The question is do I get the nickel/black to match my ultron 35 f2? And SC coating! Amazing.

Not sure I can justify a fast 50mm given I have a 0.58 M6TTL. I will eagerly await sample images and seeing how it handles both on M and adapted platforms though. I really like the VM 35 1.7.

On their site, there's an explanation of their terminologies. For whatever reason they put that line as an image, not actual text, so that didn't get translated. That line basically says:

Vintage Line: the series pursuing classical and beautiful styling while incorporating the latest optical designs.

Classic Series: the series aiming to achieve unique renderings not found in modern lenses by reproducing classic lens layout using the latest technology.

So the Vintage Line is retro look, modern optical design (thus probably modern rendering/performance, but they do have SC version) while the Classic Series is going for a retro rendering but of course produced with modern manufacturing methods and robust coating, etc.

In the Leica term, Vintage Line is like their LE Summilux ASPH with classic barrel design, and the Classic Series is Leica's Heritage series like Summaron-M 28/5.6.
