Voigtlander 'Vintage Line' 50mm 1.5 ii

Good question, no I meant the recently discontinued original M mount version that this new one is replacing.

Anyone have a guess what these might end up costing here in the US? I've been considering getting a DR Summicron 50, but I might go for one of these instead.

Based on the specs, this seems like a really short lens 36.9mm long?

It's 36.9mm from the mount (i.e., how far it will stick out from the camera body), not the total length of the lens, as lenses are often measured. With this measurement it puts it just a hair shorter than the Zeiss C-Sonnar, which is 38mm from the mount.

I do wonder why CV doesn't make their lenses as LTM and then provide an M-mount adapter.

Probably because the market for LTM is tiny. Don’t confuse RFF users with the ‘real’ world.

I’d hazard a guess and say that Voigtlander are using M as a universal mirrorless mount*. I doubt even their sales to M mount RF users will be significant in the scheme of things.

*I realise LTM could also be used as a universal mount, but I have a suspicion that the wider market could be turned off by a screw mount. They are pretty old fashioned after all (even by the standards of manual lenses).

Agree, and besides being turned off by the screw mount it adds expense to the user by either requiring them to purchase a LTM adapter or for Voigtlander to include one. It will also add more chance of problems if one buys a cheap mount that isn't the proper thickness or doesn't end up with the aperture/focusing markings being straight up. A lot more hassle for what could hurt sales more than it would help them.

One curiosity, though. Despite the flurry of new Cosina optics covering 10-75mm, no refresh of either 28 or 90 for many years. In fact, no 90 M-mount ever.

Wonder why.

A vintage line 28mm and 90mm must be in the works. 😀

What black paint M would go best with the nickel Nokton? An M3 with the raised viewfinder edges?

I don’t know about that. Isn’t the market for single coated lenses also tiny?

Cosina seems to treat the Voigtländer M line like a hobby or a labor of love; producing niche items (like the SC versions) for a tiny market that can't possibly earn them much money and yet they just seem not to care, God bless them. The Zeiss business underwrites a lot of interesting work, I guess.

Now, if only they made that 2/50 APO in M-mount...
