Automatic Makiflex w/Auto Xenars and 2x3 Graphic Back

Automatic Makiflex w/Auto Xenars and 2x3 Graphic Back

Nokton48 - Do post some images o this fun rig!

Here you go!

This is -one- of my Automatic Makiflexes, and I have two of the auto-iris original Plaubel lenses, that provide auto-aperture. So, that is why it is called the "Automatic" model.

On the left, is the 240mm Plaubel Auto Xenar lens. On the camera body, is the 180mm Plaubel Auto Xenar lens.

Also on the camera body is my new 2x3" Graphic camera back. This is my XMAS present to myself, I had been looking for one of these for twenty-five years:rolleyes: Installed the groundglass myself, now it is usuable. Later today, a friend is providing me with outdated 2x3 film and another pile of 2x3 Graphic holders.

My wife and I are going to a Holiday Ohio Camera Collecting Society meeting for dinner and fun with friends we enjoy that have similar interests. And some Draft Guiness Beer:D:D This Makiflex Auto and lenses is going to show off to the gang.

An excellent acquisition. Once you get to know this lens, I suspect you will understand it is in a class by itself. It is stunningly sharp @ f1.4 and it also does f1.2. I love that it is a 60mm, as such I am more happy to pair it with a 35mm than I would pair a 50mm with a 35mm which I find too close in field of view. The 60mm is just enough longer that it works comfortably for me.

What do you plan to use this on? I find with the M9 that I can, at distances beyond ~12 feet, frame on the inside edge of the 50mm marks, and be pretty accurate. At very near distances I tend to extrapolate a frame half way between the 50mm marks and the 75mm marks. With use it is easier done than described.

If you mount this on a M body, pay very close attention to focus as not all adapter rings are the same. I think I went through 5 different rings before settling on #6, an old E.Leitz 5cm ring with which my lens is dead on with my bodies.

One other issue I had was my lens ran out of focus connection @ ~0.9m despite the lens focussing to 0.8m. I used a Dremel Tool to very carefully grind away both the cutout on the adapter ring and the adjacent collar on the lens to give the RF follower in the body free contact with the RF cam in the lens. Here is an excellent opportunity to follow the carpenter's advice, measure twice, cut once. Slowly work into this if you do it, don't rush. Tape off the back of the lens to keep filings and grit out of the lens and off of the glass. I was just using mine last night making images of my daughter across a table from me in a restaurant, and glad to have that extra 10 centimeters of focus range.

Good that you found one for sale, I know of one of the 800 that will not be available as long as I can still make an image. ;)

Hi there, like many I've chased this lens for some time...

I will be using it predominantly on the MM and M9 although it will also be used on my film M's

Thanks for the tips.

Jason.

Leica ME and Buyer's Remorse

Leica ME and Buyer's Remorse

Have an ME on order from Popflash. It should ship by mid week and I am already feeling guilty about buying it. Of course, I will enjoy using it once it arrives.

It came down to either selling five M lenses and getting into a cheaper digital system (have too many systems already) or getting a digital M as I move into the modern age. Was not really interested in smaller sensor cameras. Looked hard at the Nikon D600 but it is simply too large as most of my shooting occurs during travel.

And of course I can always sell it. Am keeping my X100 for when even the ME is too large.

Zeiss Ikoflex IIa for $80

Oh. Nice one! I had one of those for a while. Unfortunately I let it go. I regret it!

I just bought a pair of really fast coffee cups. f50/0,95.
I just couldn't resist. Not quite like the Nikkor cups, but these do taste really nice.

Since this is my first post 2013 I want to wish you all a really great photoyear!

I finally found a "meter" version of a 50/1.5 Summarit, I bought from a nice gal.

I think, I will start selling my accumulated "ft" version Summarit and Summitar lenses, once this arrives ;-)

Nokton48 - beautiful rig!! Love it! Not a LF guy but sure appreciate a great rig! Happy new year to you and your wife! Sounds like quite a fun time, the couple that plays together...
