What have you just BOUGHT?

Pentax 67 with 90mm f2.8 and a 55mm f3.5 great value per pound...about $60 per lb.

A new Fuji X-t1 @ $1299 per lb.

A Leica 12585 Lens shade for my minty Summicron DR 50mm (about $3500 per pound but only weighs about 10 grams).
 
Just loaded the first roll - Fuji Klasse W
$200 - with all boxes and accessories + leather case.
Very very excited to take it out. 🙂

Call it impulse buy or sympathy bid... I imagined that my lonely bid would attract others and spark some type of bidding war, but the result was that I won an auction for a black Leica M4P. It should arrive tomorrow, Friday March 21st. The price? Was kinda right: $586 (shipped). Seller's warning: slight haze in the VF, not really noticeable when you shoot. Hmmm... maybe he's used to it. In any case, see here...

Went to look at a Nikkor 50 f1.4. I have a 1.2 so didn't need it and the guy wanted far too much for it. But right next to the 50 was a Soligor digital spot sensor that I could tell was massaged by Zone IV. Got it for 20 bucks and was laughing walking away because the Zone IV's value is far greater than the 50.
 
Recently I went on a little tear.
I bought a Domke F803 waxwork bag from an RFF member.
A whole bunch of stainless 120 developing reels from RFFer David Murphy.
A 50mm f/1.2 Ai Nikkor in Keh BGN (read that as mint - ) condition.

And just today I went into one of my favorite record shops to say hello to the owners and check out some music. I took a look at their shelves where they have a bunch of books and to my astonishment, I saw "Workers" by Sabastiao Salgado. Then a few books over I saw "Portraits of Greatness" by Yousuf Karsh.

The Salgado was a 1991 reprint and the Karsh was a second printing from 1960. The Karsh book was gorgeous and printed on a stock that could rival some fiber papers today. Simply gorgeous. Then again, the Salgado book was in fantastic condition and is more along the line of what I like to shoot topically. Either purchase would have been great and both are inspiring.

They both were basically the same price and I really should have bought both but I just couldn't afford it which is sad considering that both books would have cost me less than $50!

All that said, I bought the Salgado book and I'm hoping that the lesser known name of Karsh will enable the book to remain on the shelf for another week until I get paid.

Another lens for my Plaubel Makiflexes.

I enjoy designing and fabricating lens setups for my three Plaubel Makiflexes, that would be correct to use on the cameras. Here is one that arrived today from the UK; the Schneider chrome 135mm F5.6 Symmar in barrel-mount. I cut out a Plaubel Peco Jr lensboard, with an appropriate sized hole, to fit a Durst IXOTUB recessed lensboard. I then cut out the center of the IXOTUB, to accomodate the 135mm Symmar lens.

It works well, lenses shorter than 150m were generally thought of as being too short to use on the Makiflexes. I can just barely get my fingers inside the IXOTUB, to change the f/stops.

Just got back from Columbus Camera Group. Eric Mehl helped me find a 40.5mm UV and rubber lenshood for this little Bad Boy, so now it's completely done and ready to use. Will be a nice compliment to my 135mm Schneider Xenar, which I have set up identically.

Just pulled the trigger on a D800E after my D600 died (more to come later on that). Sold my Makro-Planar to help fund it.


This is a game changer for me - what a camera. Stunning.

Also picked up a Phottix D-800M (magnesium) battery grip, a couple of 16Gb SanDisk Extreme 120Mb CF cards and two 16Gb SanDisk Extreme 95Mb SD cards.
 
Just bought the grip for the A7R. Interestingly enough, I bought the A7R as a "mini-me" for my D800E, so buying the grip obviously makes it less of a mini-me :bang:, but definitely improves handling and ergonomics for me. 🙂
