I recently discovered some odd behaviour on my MP with the 50 Summilux asph.
It might be just normal flares, but:
- this lens is said to be very flare-resistant
- I did not stand in the sun, nor did the sun point into the lens
- no filter was used
- it's always just a part of the image. not the whole frame
- I often use a Summicron 50, CV Skopar 35 and CV Nokton 35 S.C. and did never see something like this on these lenses
- I don't think it's a light leak, as it's not always happening in the same area and all photos before and after look very ok

Some examples (the first one is from today and the second from earlier this summer).

Here it's on the lower right:

And here on the left:

It might just be normal behavior, but I'm definitely not new to film-photography and never have seen this before.

best,

d.

I do not think that the two pictures suffer from the same case.

The first one looks to me as if there was some kind of obstruction in the lower right hand corner quite close to the lens. I had similar effects with wire meshes in the zoo.

The second one is rather difficult to analyse because of its scale. However, I would rather think that the trees beyond the clearing might be over-exposed; also some of the foliage in the foreground might show reflections of the sky, thus appearing much too bright.

I'm not seeing it in the second picture. There is the light colored tree on the left which is in front of a break in the trees in the background and the brighter field behind it, which is draws the eye (not in a good way), but I don't see any flaring.

The first one looks like an obstruction. If this was a wider angle lens and the obstruction wasn't gray colored, I'd say it was your finger.

thanks! now that you mentioned it, there really was an obstruction I tried not to have in the pictures. totally forgot about it.
I even had a third example, but after some thinking it might have just been smoke from a barbecue next to it.
so, as I hoped, no problems at all. 🙂
