Wide Angle CV Lenses on the M9

I just picked up the little 21mm f/4 VM Skopar for use on my M9. I've only done a few test shots that include the white walls of my home (the files are still in the camera), but the color casts at the sides of the frame (green on one side, red on the other) don't look that disturbing. I shot them with lens coding off, and plan to use the latest version of Lightroom (7.6 I believe) which has lens correction profiles for this lens. I would prefer to not have to use Cornerfix and do all my adjustments in LR.

I've got the M-mount Color-Skopar 21/4. It works well enough on the M9 for B&W without any correction. That's fine by me since I only rarely do color with such a wide angle lens. For color, I apply corrections with CornerFix.

If I were shooting wide angle color more frequently, I'd bite the bullet and go for a Super Elmar-M 24mm f/3.8 ASPH. They're a bit pricey but seem to work beautifully on the M9.

I've seen a lot of mixed opinions on the CV 21mm f/4 on the M240. Say I didn't want to spend $1k+ on a wide right now would I be miserable with the CV21 and its very appealing pricepoint?

I totally see the appeal of the faster options (I love shooting in low light) but for me the price and size of the little 21/4 were what drew me to it.

These are still $1000. Thanks for the tip.
The 21/1.8 is very versatile.
I was surfing the net for a Zeiss 85/1.4 the past hour or so.

The CV 21/4 has huge huge copy variations. There is is a real good shooter who posts in FM leica thread who tried 4 before he got a really great one. Even then he needed to stop down a lot, like f/11 before the corners came in. But he does some fantastic work with it.

My copy is only soso on M9 on the edges, I wish it was better, because the lens is so tiny.

The CV 21/1.8 is meant to be excellent, but it's a monster. Fantastic event tool, however.

I agree the upcoming CV 15 redesign looks very interesting.

That's discouraging :/

I was intrigued by the 15mm, I've seen the VII going for good prices online but man that is SUPER wide. I've shot that wide often enough as I used a 16-35mm regularly on my Canon system but I feel like 20/21mm is a sweet spot for a wide presence.

I'm still interested in the little CV21 mostly because of the price / size combo. 21mm definitely wouldn't be a main lens, not like 35/50mm for me.
I could take a chance I suppose and I could send it back to Stephen if it's not right.

Patiently waiting for the new version!

I have the 12 and the 21, alongside a 25 Skopar & 35 Ultron VC lenses, and have used all of them ok on my M mount cameras (namely an M8, R-D1 and GXR). I think the 12 and 21 are both excellent, the 12 is very contrasty, the 21 is so very sharp. Obviously my cameras are all cropped sensors, so can't comment on edge fidelity on FF, but when you look at the cost of these 'used', then its a no-brainer. I have the newer, bayonet M 12mm, but all my other are the older M39 screw fitting. One thing I have never quite worked out is why VC bothered with a focussing ring on the 12mm, as even at f5.6, the DOF is infinite. Out of all the cameras, the GXR with its microlenses has the best edge sharpness, but in reality, its nit-picking, and pretty inconsequential IMHO.

I don't have an M9, so here's my CV 15mm on my M8.2:

Somebody might see something wrong with it, but I don't. Of course, on the M8, we are using only 75% of the lens' angle of view, which helps to avoid any potential aberrations at the edges.

I bought, and then sold the ZM 25mm which was a very impressive optic, and just recently acquired the tiny CV 21mm f/4 today.

From my first impression on the M240, the lens is very, very sharp through most of the frame at f/5.6-8 but the corners never really sharpen up. I'll have to actually do some proper shooting to see wether or not this will bother me, but since I bought used, I'd have to sell it and buy new, then play the copy-test game.

Does anyone have one with really sharp corners? If it's just something that doesn't happen with this lens I can totally live with that for the price. (Reminds me of the Canon 20mm f/2.8 I shot with for several years, many people hated that lens but I thought it was just fine)
