If this thing hits the street at less than $500 Stephen will have to hire someone to help keep track at the flow of inventory.

If you really want to net the VAT, the correct ratio is 100/117 not 83/100 (17% on 83 doesn't add in to make 100).
So your real factor rounds to 0.8547. This will give you the price, net of VAT.
Since you didn't ask, I'll DARFC (duck & run for cover)![]()
Of course this sort of precision is totally irrelavent on a non-existant product.
You are right. 85.47% is not far off 87%. I did a quick and dirty estimate. Point is well taken!
Still, we are talking about a bulk figure here.

(I long ago resigned myself to the 14% as legalized extortion in exchange for protection....oh...then pay your corporate, personal taxes, and head home & pay the PST/GST (VAT) for stuff you buy for yourself)
17.5 VAT, 40 income, 18 cap gain, life's hard here in't north

And of course the more folks get all excited and anxious for it, the more incentive they have to raise the price.rover said:If this thing hits the street at less than $500 Stephen will have to hire someone to help keep track at the flow of inventory.

Mirror Face said:$500 not likely, according to CV Japan site:

MSRP is 75000 JPY or 708.24 USD (current exchange).
....
My guess on the US price is that it'll be just south of $600. That's all it is -- a guess. And maybe a hope that it will be much more south.

US prices are generally significantly lower than the Japanese MSRP. Some examples:
15mm Heliar - Japan: $607 US: $345
35/1.2 Nokton - Japan: $1260 US: $819
50mm Nokton - Japan: $635 US: $339
A more recent lens:
40mm Nokton - Japan: $467 US: $349
I predict US pricing around or slightly above $500.

Given the recent "correction" in the world markets of late, "precision" might not be possible for the moment.neelin said:Of course this sort of precision is totally irrelavent on a non-existant product.
Tomorrow should be pretty interesting on the Street...

I would buy the 35/1.4 without hesitation, if i didn't already own the 35/2.5 and the 35/1.2.
I don't need another compact 35mm in addition to - or as a replacement for - the 35/2.5 and imho the half stop more speed offered by the 35/1.2, compensates for it's weight and bulk. As i use the 35/1.2 exclusively for low-light shooting, the half stop can make the difference between a usable and a blurred photo.

With the weakened U.S. dollar I'm hoping it will come into Canada cheaper than the U.S. - much like some other photo equipment I've noticed lately!

True. Maybe finally Leica prices will come down in a few months ...

With the improved quality and variety of Cosina-Voigtlander lenses, maybe it won't matter what Leica prices are.

Personally I'm going to wait to see what kind of reviews it gets and whether the extra stop will be something worth it vs. my incredibly awesome 35/2 Biogon.
It's interesting the huge fervor and excitement over this vs. the long available 40/1.4 Nokton. Is the 35 vs. 40 that much different and important to people? That said I certainly hope it has more unique character than the 40/1.4 Nokton. I liked the 40 Nokton enough in terms of sharpness but found it nothing particularly special or unique in character or rendition. I know, I know, very personal and subjective but there you go. Then again I'm a 50/2 Summicron DR type of guy and love it's character and the 40/1.4 Nokton was very different and thus why I likely was not overly thrilled with it and sold it.
Also was not a big fan of the 40 Nokton's ergonomics. Looking at the photos this 35/1.4 unfortunately looks fairly identical along those terms....
