Have You seen the new 35/1.4 Nokton?

Hey my guess must be one of the earliest and close. Do I get a free one as a prize. :D :D

Yes but the 40 Nokton is listed at 50,000 yen. So a 50% increase on $349 = ~$525

Compare this with $400 for the Ultron and $800 for the Nokton and it seems quite cheap. The M replacements for the LTM lenses have been slightly more expensive. My guess would be around the $600 mark.

About six months ago Mr. K asked Tom A

Stephen

oooo so you knew there was something in the works...:p
but of course you couldnt tell us

it takes 6 months to make such a fast lens?
WOW
i thought it would take a few years to research and engineer something like this

I think it is to do with the framelines. CV have the R3 with 40 lines and so does the CL/CLE but otherwise it is 35. I know I find the PEntax 43 is not the easiest to use with either 35 or 50 lines.

It's interesting the huge fervor and excitement over this vs. the long available 40/1.4 Nokton. Is the 35 vs. 40 that much different and important to people?

Hmm... I really want this lens... but alas i am poor and i dont think i could get the funds for it.

Maybe if i sold my zorki 4k, a nikon 50mm af-d lens, and got my insurance money on my stolen light meter... eee... :\

Wow. Over 300 posts in five days! With so many buying it, what ever "look" it has won't be unique for long! ;)
Ain't that the truth.

Price is a bit higher than I'd hoped, but not a total deal-killer. Have a few other things in the queue at the moment, but keeping this little number in mind.

That's a great price on what I hope will be a great lens. Part of me wants to swap out my 40/1.4 for her, but I think I will stay put. Interesting niche Pres K is carving out.

FWIW when I mention a "unique" look I mean in terms of in comparison to other lenses, not what other people are getting. To me, and in particular with B&W work, a lens must be more than just sharp....

Voigtlander 35/1.4 SC or MC $559

Just thought about it again and realized that the street price in Japan is generally around 20% off the MSRP and given the high yen/low dollar almost always makes a slightly higher price in Japan than in the US. But the price listed by Stephen is exactly the same as the Japan street price would be based on the 20% off MSRP formula. Interesting.

Preorders are being taken in Taiwan, too, but no word on pricing yet.

Clearly, CV pricing on new products is rising. Zeiss pricing seems to be on the upward curve, too. Guess we are in the midst of general market adjustment upwards... At least as far as Zeiss is concerned, I'd say "buy now".

Anyway, I'm really surprised that the normally stoic/skeptical "gotta see it to believe it" ethic of this forum has fallen by the wayside as so many are so eager to embrace a lens that nobody has used. But there is no question that new RF lenses call for excitement!!! And obviously the lens may unknown, but CV is a known and reliable benchmark...

It will be interesting to see the results, now, won't it!?

And whatever the results, we should all promise to each other to remember the enthusiasm that comes from a spirit of discovery and to refrain from post-feeding frenzy resentment, conceit, or whatever.

Enjoy your lenses, Friends!!!

My guess is that you should be sending Stephen $100 for the SC version. Was there anything about the SC versions being limited like the 40 is? Interesting that they have not sold out yet, but I have a feeling that if the SC look is what you are after, this one might quicker than the 40.

I agree, it will be quite interesting to see how much magic Pres K can bring. How much a look from an era he can recreate?

I also wonder what this new lens will do to the price of 40/1.4s?

I know she will not be for everybody, but I can not wait to see what she will produce for us.

I did check with my source in Japan on the lenshoods for the new 35/1,4. It will have a dedicated hood, designated LH-6 whilst the 40 hood is LH-5. No opinion if the 40mm hood can be used with the 35/1,4 - but you can use the 35f1.4 on the 40mm! The mount is the same obviously and as the LH5 hood is not listed as recommended with the 35. there could be a chance of vignetting. I have been promised one of the 35mm f1,4's (S.C.) in mid february. Can't wait to try it out and at the moment I am shooting some rolls with my pre-asph 35f1,4 to have something to compare it with when it arrives.

I'm intrigued by the 1.4 but only as a backup for when i don't feel like lugging the 1.2 around. The Beast is big, but to me it's image quality and character is unmatched. It's just soooo smooth. I'm anxious to see shots from the 1.4 though, I think it will be a big winner.

Tom,

Can you finally reverse mount the lens hood when you put her in the bag with the lens mounted on the body?

B2 (;->
Since neither Tom nor Zee Bartender have an example of this lens in their hot little mitts just yet, they could only, at best, hazard a guess about reverse-mounting the hood, let alone any of the two-dozen or so things we're all dying to know about it. On the one hand, I'm sure that for some, reverse-mounting for more-compact storage would be nice; for me, in the case of the only lens I own with a vented hood (Konica M-Hex 28 f/2.8), the hood never leaves the camera...period. (Yes, it's a non-reversible screw-mount hood, but still...) That's a good reason why the front element is still in great shape, even though I've never bothered to mount a filter in front of it in the six years that I've owned it. If and when I get the new Nokton, the setup will be the same.

Tom - I assume that, given the 1.33 cropping factor with the M8, the LH5 hood wouldn't vignette when used with the 35/1.4 - it should certainly offer a higher degree of protection from flare when shooting against the light.

John, I think you can safely use the 40 hood on the 35 with the M8. On the other hand flare does not seem to be a problem with the CV lenses as a rule. Even the 40f1.4 SC is quite remarkable in its lack of it.
As for reversing the lenshood - I dont know if it is possible as the the 35f1.4 has a focussing tab on it and that could interfere. The only time I do it is when they go into the lensdrawer for storage. When in use, they are allways on and not only serve as lenshoods but also as bumpers.
