All I have to say - Let's wait and see how it performs.
And on a separate note - I'd rather see a new 50mm/1.2 or even 1.0 Nokton, as I'm more of a 50mm shooter. But I'm sure many will disagree with me on this one.

This is one time I'm not going to wait for anything - going in with both guns blazing! If I believed half the "reviews" of the 40mm Nokton I'd think it was no good. I shot a roll with one and thought it was fantastic, so I'm sure I won't be disappointed with the 35. If I am, I'll sell it.

sooo very glad!
the cle with 40/2 will be fun but i can see the r4a with fast 35 and maybe the 21 or 25 being a fabulous small & light go anywhere kit.
i'm getting damp

CameraQuest said:Normally Cosina informs the distributors of new product details several weeks in advance. I have no info on the 35/1.4 from the factory yet, not until they reopen after the weekend.
About six months ago Mr. K asked Tom A and myself if a 35/1.4 or 35/2 would be more desirable. We both favored the 35/1.4. I would have preferred screw mount, to allow for easy M8 coding.
no prices yet, but taking deposits. probable delivery mid to late February.

how much for a deposit stephen...?

Of course you would want it. you have to compare the two!Tuolumne said:Enquiring minds want to know: If you have a 35mm 1.4 Summilux, would you really need a 35mm 1.4 Nocton?

And Cosina is quite good at selling people lenses in the same focal length over and over again. First everybody got excited about the 35/1.7 Ultron ("Like the pre-ASPH Summicron, only faster"), then they raved abouth the 35/1.2 Nokton ("There is no true replacement for shallow DOF"), and now they will buy the 35/1.2 Nokton ("Compact, fast, and a classic signature!").sitemistic said:I love it when a new lens is announced. The classifieds and ebay then get filled with great prices on last year's wonder lens that everyone is dumping to buy the new one.
Result: Cosina will have managed to sell a lot of 35s, sometimes two or three to the same people within a couple of years, and most of them new straight from the factory. That's something even Leica doesn't manage, and Cosina manages to pull it off without starting to compete with their own older products, which is probably the more significant achievement in this respect.
By the same logic, we should expect a huge 50/1.2 ASPHERICAL soon with a $1000-or-so price tag, followed by a very compact 50/1.4 two or three years later at about $500.

That would be great! I'd gladly give up m 50 Summicron for the CV 50 1.4. I'm loving these lenses coming out in the M mount because I don't have any LTM cameras, but it would be nice if they kept the LTM lenses in production too. I wonder if they could make a 50 1.4 that's actually smaller than their 50 1.5? (Which is a great lens too!)

And by the same logic there will be a Bessa with longer EBL soon

Character is just another way of saying my lens is expensive but doesn't perform as well as the CV's at 1/5 the price.

You might not need one but you would want one. This is a much smaller lens. It's worth trying.Tuolumne said:Enquiring minds want to know: If you have a 35mm 1.4 Summilux, would you really need a 35mm 1.4 Nocton?

When we in Japan last March Mr Kobayashi and I discussed the idea of a 35f1.4 extensivly. The parameter were simple, an improved version of the latest 35f1,4 pre-asph with less agressive texture of the 35f1,4 asph and less prone to flare compared to that lens.
The old 35f1.4 Pre-Asph is a very old design, dating to the early 60's and though heavily massaged over the decades, its age shows. It is still a very good lens, but things like field curvature, coma is prevalent, particularly in the "fast" apertures.
The CV lens will have adressed that. Modern computer design and upgraded glass will make a difference.
For those who are using the 40f1.4 Classic Nokton (Multi coated) you will probably recognize the "draw" of the lens, but i suspect that the new lens will have improved over even that lens!. Mr Kobayashi likes making lenses and he takes pride in improving what he makes as he goes along. The CV designers are extremely competent and when it comes to fast optics, they probably have more experience in it than virtually anyone else. CV is one of the foremost producers of ultra high speed optics for surveillance cameras world wide!
I have not yet shot with the new 35mm f1.4 but in the meantime I am sticking my pre Asph 35mm f1,4 Summilux on a M2 just to gather up some stuff to compare with the new one when it arrives.

i'll hold on to the 35/2.5 for now and if i like the new 35 i'll sell the old one. if not i'll sell the new one
this just feels right...who knows why.
I will probably keep the Ultron since it is an LTM lens and maybe keep both if I do buy it.

For f***'s sake that's great news!
I would like to know the exact size of this lens, but it seems rather small. Though I'm very pleased with my Color Skopar and don't even think of buying a Leica 35 lens, I'm considering buying this one at its release.
I just hope M. K. planned to produce a chrome version, otherwise I'll stick to my 35/2.5.
