New 50mm f1.1

That is why my favorite lens is the Planar 50/2.

I second that, but can't imagine this lens compares to the Planar. I put in an offer regardless.

I just took it out of box minutes ago, need time to play around and get some kind of impression. I jokingly call it the poor mans Noctilux.

yeah saw this one too. Prefer the one in this thread for the full frame coverage, but I love seeing this new wave of off brand glass.

If it starts getting good at f2 why not just buy a Planar? It's a lot to carry if you can't use it at 1.1.

I don't "need" another 50mm lens as I have many excellent lenses. It may interest me what a Chinese new lens is like. I have three Summicrons 50/2.

My Planar seems to do pretty good wide open and my Elmar does even better.

Besides, I have bought into the concept that sharpness is a bourgeoisie concept.

It makes me feel better about all those slightly out of focus prints I get when I put my negatives in the enlarger. 😀

I also have enough 50mm lenses lying around. I am pretty positive I could use a new one every day of the month and not have used them all by the time the month comes to an end. At least that is what my wife tells me.

It is a Sonnar design lens, and Sonnar lenses are not meant to have a max aperture of 1.1, I think. It may show OOF rendering similar to what you get from fast lenses from the 1950's or earlier.
