Pentax 67 Gas!

Lovely pics and more proof that the big Pentax can be shot hand held at pretty low speeds successfully. 🙂

I think a lot of the kick you feel in the camera happens after it's made it's exposure.

Thanks Keith. I love the feel and sound this camera makes every time you press the shutter.

I'm not speaking to Doug because he's being such a tease! 😉 Cruel man.

Have you looked at those shots with a loupe, J? I'm just curious. The lowest I've gone so far is 1/60th and I haven't had a chance to examine that day's output carefully yet to determine if that was acceptable.

I haven't looked at them with a loupe, but I have viewed the scans at 100%. These shots are not critically sharp and would not hold up well to being enlarged.

j.scooter, congrats on your 67 acquisition, welcome to the "club"! A good start, and the machine appears to be working. 🙂

Thanks Doug, glad to finally be a member, is there a patch or handshake that I should be aware of😀

Someone will be around to teach you the official handshake. Obviously, your hands don't shake.
If you buy an M5 you will know both secret handshakes.
You will also have forearms like Popeye! Good work with the 6x7.

Just a thought - I've been shooting with the 105 for a little bit, found the minimal focus a little limiting though. I've tried a bunch of other lenses and really stuck with the 75. A beautiful all-rounder which goes down to some 20-30 cm.

yes but it make a quite uneasy camera (putting and removing the tubes) and put all the weight of the lens far away from the body causing a big torque for the photographer

Right; and plus, even with the number one extension tube and your 105mm lens set to infinity you are focusing at the lower limit of the 105mm lens without the tube: 3+ feet or 1 meter. This then goes down to (I'm not going to look it up) but about -+13 inches (-+ 32.5cm.). This is an in convenient was to shoot below 1 meter. At least for me, I can't use those tubes without a tripod and a lot of time.

But they do work (and with the meter in non-stopdown mode):

The 90mm f/2.8 is also a close-focuser, going down to .65m. This is a very compact handy lens. And the 135mm f/4 gets to .75m... It's .41m for the 75mm f/2.8... 16.2 inches!

Well, I just ordered a 6x7 w/ Metered Prism from KEH. Partially thanks to this thread. 🙂 Put that with my 105/2.4 and it should be great!

Time to revive this poor thread! I just shot in a snowstorm last night, the camera held up so much better than I did 😛

I would like some help though. Since it was technically still daylight, the sky was this really orange foggy color. I haven't printed these, but the scans look like the colors are very "correct" which I'm glad I got, but I'd like to start moving away from. The exposure times were around 8, 15, 30, 60 seconds...if I want wacky colors how long should I be trying to photograph for? I was already at f/8 or f/11 so maybe I have to wait for it to get darker before I can do longer exposures (or buy a ND). Anyway here are a few photos. Since I don't really know what I'm doing yet, I got a meter reading with my handheld meter and bracketed about two stops in each direction. These were the best exposures.

These were all with the 45mm

A 45mm lover too. Wonderful lens. Personally, I find the color range, tone, contrast, quality, etc. perfect. You can always introduce strange colors with Photoshop or any other editor.
LOVE your work with the 45.

Your scanning is perfect too. What scanner/scanner software/post scan software are you using?

great!!

great!!

great first outing!! your choice of using color film (and the terrific scanning) are encouraging me to try some of my recently bought ektar 100.

you made some fine casual portraits of that cutey.

thanks for sharing.

I feel kind of restricted with only a 45 and a 105, but for landscapes like this, the 45mm is fantastic. I'm using an Epson V700 right now, although my school has an Imacon that I'll start using next year, for 4x5 and medium format. I wasn't entirely happy with the color balance in these three...since some of the exposures had more reciprocity failure than others, it was hard to get them all the same. Next time I go back, it will be darker out and hopefully photos will be more like 15 minutes or 30 minutes and I'll get some really cool colors.

Thank you! I'm glad you liked those. So far I've only had the opportunity to shoot ektar on 35mm, the 6x7 photos of the girl (Haley) were all Portra NC or cross-processed Velvia 100. Nowadays I'm shooting only Fuji Pro 160s (and Pro 400H with my yashica point and shoot) because it's cheaper in bulk. I haven't shoot b&w in so long that I've practically forgotten...developing color is a very different process 🙂
