rd1 users...what is your favourite kit?

i think a 25 is actually better on the rd1 than a 28...for me anyway.

i keep the 28 because it's a mint black cv 28/3.5 that i keep thinking i 'should' hold onto.
and because i often like other's images from a 28...just doesn't work well for me.
i use it with a 50 as a kit...but not nearly as often as the 21/40 kit.

I found that the 21/3.5 SA was an absolute PITA on the R-D1, due to the massive light fall-off at the edges and the unusable metering, so I sold it. I'm still planning to replace it with a CV 21/4 Skopar on of these days.

The 28mm Elmarit-M aspherical works beautifully on the R-D1. I'm not convinced the results from the Elmarit-M are "better" than from the CV 28/3.5 Skopar, but the Elmarit-M has less light fall-off and the physical handling is a bit better.

a hint for framing 21mm: select the 50mm framelines and frame with both eyes open: imagine the 50mm frame as the center rectangle of a bigger rectangle with 9 times the 50mm frame. works like a charm! just imagine triple width and height and you're good to go, no external finder needed.

those 28's are hard to come by. You captured my sentiment though, the 25 is fantastic with the r-d1 and its sensor. (zeiss 25mm Zm)

I've just got my R-D1s today, no lenses yet! Hopfully be a 50mm Industar in the post tomorrow and a 25mm CV Snapshot when my father gets back from his work trip that takes him near a good used dealer tomorrow evening.

The frame line switch, is that for equiv FL or actual? IE if I mount the Industar 50mm, then 50mm should provide correct framelines? I presume when I use the 25mm I'll just set the framelines to 28mm and guess from there? The lens comes with a vf but I'd probably rather not use it.

yes and yes.

you're off to a good start...the 25 is great on the rd1...the 50 is like a short tele, very good for portraits.
 
Yeah that's what I want the 50 for. I think I'll have call to use the camera for portraiture in the enxt week or two so grabbed a cheap Industar off eBay to get me going, I'll probably replace it with something nicer in time.

Hesitated on the 25mm, I originally planned to get one because I've also bought a Bessa L that's yet to arrive from the US and thought it'd go well on that, then I bought the RD and thought it could go between them but when I remembered it's not rf coupled I wasn't so sure, hopefully I can master scale focusing!
 
with a 25 it's pretty easy to to use hyper focal distance...a bit of practice and you have a fancy point & shoot that takes great images.
 
Just posted some in the other thread.

I just noticed, when I fit my 25mm along with the adaptor, the dots which indicate where the focus and aperture are set to aren't totally dead centre, should I be concerned?

There's a notch in the adaptor that sits top dead centre but the lens seems to screw onto the adapter and go just a few degrees past this point.
