The next digital M: When?

So you come into a Leica thread, comment on things like the MM that you have NO first hand knowledge of and no plans at all to ever own or try because you want to show us the error of our ways? LoL... So it doesn't work for you. Why come into this thread then?

Remember this is a Rangefinder forum so its doesn`t seem unreasonable that people here will favour a Leica over a DSLR ... no ?

I fail to understand why people are surprised at this.

I'm not surprised. But based on opinions seen here, it seems that digital Leicas are already considered being perfect without any faults. There's no need to make anything better.

Never said they were perfect just the right tool for certain things. And better? I have no plans to upgrade if they come out with a new MM. The one I have is just fine as is. And if the make a new M I hope they do a great job with sensor technology but leave all the gadgets to the DSLR crowd. Maybe a new M-E with the new sensor . Fully manual. it wont happen but I can dream.

Is anyone using the m240 and much happier than when they used the m9?

I do really like my m9, whilst not perfect it's a great camera and has let me take some good pictures.

Thats fine if all you do is photograph slow things at f8🙂

Not really. Pre-focus at f/1,4 on the spot where you want to take the picture. Press the button a fraction of a second before the subject gets there. Beats autofocus every time -- unless you're photographing slow things and react slowly.

If that`s not your style ...that`s ok but why in that case join the thread.

They don`t work for me either if I`m doing sports shots .
Maybe the batteries wouldn`t hold up in the temps you shoot in....so move to a better climate .
It makes as much sense as suggesting RF users change their cameras . 🙂

Besides, how many people reading this are going to buy "the next M"? Most are fantasists who either can't afford one or don't want one. How many have actually tried a Typ 240? I have (see review in American Photographer, http://www.americanphotomag.com/photo-gallery/2014/02/love-leica ). If I didn't have a M9 I would consider one. As it is...

Its funny how the Leica shooter seems to be some kind of artist while anyone who uses a DSLR is a nerdy geek who is into gadgets🙄

I was replying to this sentence: "pre-focused and for work that is all about the moment". The terms all about the moment & pre-focused in same sentence does not sound like he is mostly using f1.4.

I actually wanted to get M or MM, but after couple of days of reading rff and l-forum, it seems clear that I do have to wait longer before taking the plunge. I love Leica M film cameras and they fit me perfectly.

Yep I`m waiting too ... I can`t claim that my film M`s meet all my needs but I enjoy using them.

Obviously you are reading things into statements that are not there. Has anyone stated the M is the perfect camera?

For me the M9 and the MM are not at all perfect in a sense that every feature is the latest and greatest - but they are good enough for what I do and I thoroughly enjoy using them 😛.

Good enough for a certain style of photography and not overloaded with features that will just get in your way.

With a small camera like a Leica M you just get closer to your subject (people that is) w/o "raising their guards" than with a big hulk of a SLR with a zoom lens plus sunshade sticking on in reverse.
A classic example where less (in specs & size) is more (in actual use) 😀.
