Have You seen the new 35/1.4 Nokton?

I'm thinking that in the past Mr K has avoided going head to head with Leica - all the CV's have had different FL/aperture combinations from Leica lenses but perhaps feels that Leica have broken the unspoken agreement with the new Summarits (3 of the 4 being quite similar to previous CV lenses). If the gloves really are off ....
Dear Andy,

There never was an unspoken agreement.

Cheers,

Hopefully this will drive down the costs of all the Leica 35 lenses too. Supply and demand.
I don't think I'd hold my breath on that one. Some Leica gear is gravity-defying in terms of market value in spite of almost anything. I'm just happy this new lens is coming out. If (most likely) and when I get it, I won't have the L brand much on my mind...just how nice low-light shooting suddenly became.

When we in Japan last March Mr Kobayashi and I discussed the idea of a 35f1.4 extensivly.

Sorry for asking, but this begs the obvious question....So what other lenses did you & Mr. Kobayashi discuss extensively? :D

strangely i didn't see any 28mm lens on that cosina web page, but 4 35mm instead, why ? surely a 28/1.4 would be more than amazing.

price and availability in HK

price and availability in HK

according to Cosina Voigtlander's Hong Kong distributor, Lai Kok Photo, the Nokton 35/1.4 suggested retail price will be HKD8,500 (USD 1088) and will be available in mid February.

actual street prices should be lower depending on each dealer, but even then, that's quite a lot more than what people were estimating.

anybody have any other price info to confirm/contradict this?

The 75,000 yen MSRP on Cosina's site strongly indicates a US price well below what the Hong Kong distributor mentioned. I would expect CameraQuest to sell the lens for around $500.

Robert

A nice, fast, 24 or 25mm in the same style as the 35/40mm (f2.0 for preference to keep it fairly small)?

I just looked in in the homepage of some of the german Voigländer -sellers.
At Mundus I couldn´t find the new Nokton 1.4/35 but the "new" 1.9/28 Ultron with M-Mount. It is just 60 € cheaper than the LTM Version:
Voigtländer Ultron 28mm/1.9 Asph. Leica M
[19482] 439.99EUR
[inkl. 19% MwSt zzgl. Versandkosten]

Unfortunatelly this dealer isn´t my favourite ;)

and at the 1.2/35 I found the following remark:
"AUFGRUND einer derzeit laufenden Voigtländer-Promotion in unserem Hause für kurze Zeit zum Sonderpreis , nur solange Vorrat reicht !"
Seems to run out.

Wow, 28mm is a huge whole at the Cosina web site and in their line up. The photos though of that M Ultron look just like the LTM lens, which is a good thing, means I don't feel any need to sell the LTM for the newer M. The only reason to do so would be for a physically smaller lens, with like performance.

It says Leica M-Bayonett UND M39 Gewinde. UND means and...:)
You are right !:)
But why they are selling the only LTM - Lens for 60 € more than the "M"lens (LTM+ adapter?)

ugly merchandising  if the only LTM lens ist 60€ more expensive than the LTM lens+adapter

A whole that still needs to be filled. The CV 50mm selection seems a little long in tooth too. If we are going to overhaul their line-up lets do them all.

We need 2 M 28mm lenses, an Ultron, perhaps in a new body, and Skopar like the others. I am ok wider than 28 and their 35 offerings are well differentiated. 50mm, the Nokton needs to be updated along the lines of the rover imagined new 28 Ultron and another offering would also fit, Skopar being the bread and butter for CV. The 75 and 90 will get the job done for now, maybe 2009 will be their year.

A ridged f2 50 Heliar would be OK, the Nokton’s fine as it is

The photo from that German retailer clearly show that it is an M mount 28mm f1.9.

I think we have established that is the current Ultron with LTM adaptor screwed in place.
