Voigtlander 'Vintage Line' 50mm 1.5 ii

One curiosity, though. Despite the flurry of new Cosina optics covering 10-75mm, no refresh of either 28 or 90 for many years. In fact, no 90 M-mount ever.

Wonder why.

I’d love to see a Vintage line 90/f2.8, compact with a 39mm filter thread.

There’s not really any good options for a compact, modern M mount 90/f2.8...

Wasn't there an uncoated line of vintage lenses that someone tried to make? Was it Zeiss? I think they had massive flare. And reduced light transmission, losing like a whole stop of light or something.

Sure, but SC and MC are just different coating options on the same lens.

The OP I was responding to wasn’t talking about options, it was asking why Voigtlander doesn’t make all its lenses LTM.

I would buy it in a heartbeat if available in LTM. It can’t any more difficult to make it in LTM with a detachable M adapter.

Check out the Konica M-Hexanon 90mm f/2.8 M-mount lens. It's great (sharp and characterful) and surprisingly small. I used to own it and I seem to remember it being around the same size as the LTM version of the Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.5.

This is the "vintage" line but it is vintage in cladding only. The optics are modern. I would be more interested in their classic line. I just acquired a version 1 Leica 50 Lux and a version 2 35 Lux to use with my Monochrom and am liking the rendering for portraits near wide open much more then with my ASPH lenses. I am looking forward to seeing how the proposed re-issue of the Noctilux 1.2 renders and will hope after the initial limited run, a black version is available without restriction should I like how the lens performs.

If it's anything like the ultron 35 f2 I hope there will be some 'vintage' characteristics to the optical performance. As far as I can tell it only has one aspherical element so I imagine it won't be a super high performance clinical style lens like many mirrorless ones now that have multiple aspheric and ED elements.

The original 1.5 Nokton in chrome is probably my favorite 50mm. Will be interesting to see what the new one can do. And I might be weird but I like the original focusing ring.

Yep, I have the last version M mount in black and it's one of my faves too. Sharp with nice bokeh. Usually pick it over Leica Summicron and older Summilux. I'm really curios what the new one adds.

The new 50mm f1.2 looks great for people pics. Only thing holding me back is how soft it gets at minimum focus distances. Seems to change character pretty drastically. Not necessarily a bad thing, but just adds another variable into the equation when trying to make predictions on image quality before pressing the shutter.

A vintage line 28mm and 90mm must be in the works. 😀

What black paint M would go best with the nickel Nokton? An M3 with the raised viewfinder edges?

Agreed and, in anticipation to that, had sold my CV 28/3.5 a while ago.

A compact 28/2.8 infused with modern technology is likely on the horizon.

Bold move.

Mr. K never updated the 28/3.5 to M-mount, only updating the f/1.9 Ultron. What if he's committed to the larger, faster lens?

I hope they're working on a 28/2.8 modeled after the Canon LTM myself.

New Voigtlander 50mm 1.5 Nokton version II - finally, good design!

New Voigtlander 50mm 1.5 Nokton version II - finally, good design!

Leica Rumors has published specs on the new VC lens and it looks to be a seriously good barrel design - similar to the Zeiss ZM Sonnar and (thankfully) very far from the previous Voigtlander 50 Nokton and its ridiculous 1950s throwback body.

Available in 4 options, including black paint on nickel. And unlike the Zeiss, MFD of 0.7m. I am drooling already to see how it performs. Really, they should have released a lens like this ten years ago but better late then never!

Does anyone know more about this?

Hard to believe they make a 50mm lens in nickel and black with an M-bayonet. I've never seen an M-Leica in black and nickel.

But there are plenty LTM-Leicas in black and nickel! Come on, Cosina, THINK!

Erik.
